I got a call from TSC this past Friday and they said they had a Champion Generator in for me to pickup. The manager said they go out the door as fast as they come in.
Anyway; I got it home and took it out of the box. I was very pleased with the fit and finish. I read the manual quick and followed all the procedures; removed the shipping brackets, added oil, fresh fuel... I set the choke and the dang thing fired up on the FIRST pull of the rope!!! Amazing to say the least!
I took it out to my Sprinter 311BHS with 15,000 BTU air and tested it. The motor pulled down a little and ran great along with all the lights and TV. I also popped a bag of popcorn in the microwave and turned all the lights and fans on in the camper at one time; No problem. I tried to run the microwave and the air at the same time and it did pull the motor down pretty hard to wards a stall. That was the limit and I shut it down quick!
My question: I have a voltage meter plugged into the wall of my bathroom all the time. We keep an eye on it while we're camping to see what voltage we are getting. With the generator running and a few lights on the meter in the camper read 110v... With the air conditioner running and lights it popped up to 115v-120v... With the microwave running and lights it read 125v to 130v... Why would it increase under certain loads and not decrease???

Rob

Well, Big, there are different kinds of voltmeters. For a voltmeter to remain accurate at varying levels of voltage and different AC waveforms, it must be a True RMS voltmeter. If yours is not a True RMS voltmeter it will not read accurately with different waveforms and sometimes with different frequencies of AC.
If your generator is not a true sine-wave generator it will likely have a distorted waveform when the engine is heavily loaded, and thusly the voltmeter will be in error if it is not a True RMS voltmeter.

This is the voltage meter I have: Camping World AC Voltage Meter

I did notice the needle bouncing a little when the AC was running...

Big J--
Just out of curiosity, what was the meter on the Champion reading at the time? You got the 3500/4000, right? My info is that generates at a more or less steady 125 VAC.

Yes, I recall it ran about 125v on the generators meter...

I bought a champion generator from Kragen this weekend. I bought it for $350 with a $150 mail in rebate. It also started on the first pull after I had done everything the manual said. I brought it out to my TT and fired it up and ran the air conditioner, and the microwave, and the lights. Works great. I bought the wheel kit for it also, and the only thing I don't like about it is the handle. It isn't that easy to move it around. But it is easier then without the wheel kit, so I guess I shouldn't complain. By the way it the generator is the 3500w 4000w peak.

I didn't have any problem running my 13.5 AC, Microwave, and my girl's hair dryer at the same time with my Champion RV Generator. It always seems to run at a constant RPM with no fluctuations.
The Champion has run everything I've asked it to so far (since Dec '06) and never complained about it.

I am not sure about location, but here in Nevada, as well as in California, Kragen is offering $150 mail in rebate. I saw it a week ago Sunday, and then my Dad emailed me a scanned copy from his local paper in California that had the add in it. I had been waiting for some sort of deal on the generator, and this sounded pretty good even though I have to wait for the money.
