Oh boy, here we go! To keep the noise police away I painted my Champion red and stuck a Honda logo on it. It's now quieter that a 2000 Honda and produces twice the power.
I'm certainly not the noise police - just curious. I don't yet own a generator so am gathering as much info as I can about them.

I was in Zion NP last week, and was watching a neighbor with a 1000 Honda. He pulled on it ten times, never once offered to start, so he checked the fuel. Must of been ok, he pulled it five more times, still nothing. He then proceeded to turn it 90 degrees, and it fired right up. Must be a north/south type of thing.
In comparison, my yellow generator will start first pull, every time.

Yep, Thats just what I read into his question, he was not calling it a loud Genny, he just asked a question, and was met by a sarcastic reply, not truly helpful.... was it ?
I love my Honda, but would welcome (and have welcomed ) an "off brand" quieter genny near me, than an OPEN FRAME one !!

OK--here is my take on the Champion:
I bought the Champion generator in late 2006 for use at a NASCAR race. We were situated in a dirt lot alongside lots of RVs. There were generators of every type--from 1000W Hondas to large contractor-style generators. Everyone shut down their generators by the 11:00 PM curfew. NASCAR camping is one big party--lots of noise. So the Champion (rated 68db at 7 meters) fit right in. I've used it at 2 races so far.
I also started participating in BBQ Competitions. We park our RVs in nearby parking lots designated for us. These competitions run 24 hours a day for the 3-4 days of the event. There are lights, noise, and diesel generators for booth power running 24/7--constant noise. The Champion fits right in.
There is no need to run a generator 24/7. I've found that running it for 3 hours in the evening is enough to charge the TT battery to last until the morning.
I've used it approximately 10 times since I bought it.
I don't use my Champion for camping in a forest or National Park--because we don't take the TT there. IMO, that is a quiet venue that most noise is frowned upon.
If I were to start camping in a quiet setting, I would buy one of the red or blue generators to use to re-charge the battery. But since I frequent events that don't require a quiet generator, I feel that the Champion was the correct choice for us.
Bottom line: The Champion generator is a good value for the $$. However, if you are RVing in areas that noise is frowned upon, a red or blue generator would be a better fit.

Naaa, you need to put a "Type R" emblem on it, that gets you the extra speeeeeed I was actually thinking of 'modding out' my Champion with modified exhaust, after all, don't loud pipes save lives?
