Check out French Quarter RV Park. It is wonderful. Just opened last year. One street off the French Quarter. They assist you with everything you want to do. Like staying in a fine hotel but in your RV. Extremely safe. We fell in love with the park and the staff.
Both fantastic.

I am here right now! We are having a great time with the kids. Staying at New Orleans West KOA. Can't say this is the best area of town but how many of those areas would allow a KOA? BUT, We do feel very safe here and folks seem very gracious to help and offer advice. It has all amenities (free wifi, cable, sewer, electric, water). New Orleans is definitely up and open for business and looking forward (AND NEEDING) the tourists to come back. So far we are definitely excited about finishing out our week here in NOLA. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

Having lived in NOLA for a couple of years, in our recent travels just prior to Mardi Gras we elected to stay at a casino in Bay St Louis just east of NOLA. GREAT place and inexpensive sites. Short drive - we rode the Gold Wing back and forth - to NOLA>
We were in New Orleans March of 2007. We didn't feel threatened. Finding a place to park our big truck we pull the 5th wheel with there was an issue, but got the job done. And, finding a rest room while visiting N.O. can be a bigger issue. We camped at Hattiesburg, Miss. which is about a 2 hour drive. And coming in from the east we found the highway to be like a washboard. Hopefully they have repaired it by now. I would camp away from NO & just visit there for a day as we did. I don't think it is any more dangerous than any other city, just have to use your common sense & hopefully don't be in the wrong place at the wrong time. I am very sorry to hear of Allen's friend being shot there. Wow! How horrible.
I am wondering about the flooding there in the next few weeks when all the snow melt & excessive rain starts down the Mississippi River.

Flooding is not an issue. Water is being diverted into Lake Ponchartrain to ease the pressure on the levees from Donaldsonville to N.O. I drove by the French Quarter RV Park on the way to Tulane Medical Cnter Tuesday. First time I had seen it, and as stated, CLOSE to the French Quarter. I would not be concerned about parking there if I wanted to be that close to New Orleans. We prefer the state parks on the North Shore.
