If you want another area that will give you a different "flavor" of the southern beaches, then I would suggest Emerald Isle, NC and stay at the Holiday Trav L Park. It is about a 4 hour trip from the Myrtle Beach area. The Outer Banks (OBX) of NC is another wonderful area that will give you a different look, however, I'm not sure how long of a trip it is from the Myrtle Beach area - it will be more than 4 hours. If you just want to stay in the area but a different campground, I also would go to Willow Tree. It is not on the beach but is a very nice place with great sites. Hope this helps but if all of us are on the wrong track, let us know and we'll try to point you in the right direction.

No, everyone is on the right track, I'm just looking for a different taste of scenery...might as well see as much as we can...we've got 9 days in Murrell's Inlet and then about 7 to meander back to Ontario....

With seven days to travel home, I would suggest that you travel west to Skyline Drive and visit the Shenandoah National Park...

As long as it's not the Memorial day weekend time I would suggest going to either the Albermarle Sound area or to the Outer Banks via the ferry to Ocracoke and then to Hatteras Island. This will give you a nice feel for the Carolina beaches.

That or head over to Asheville or Boone area. The mountains are nice in May. Cool at night but enjoyable during the day.

Looks like we may have a problem finding somewhere on the Friday, Saturday...with it being Memorial Day Weekend...we would most likely be on the road home about then...we're trying to be back in Ontario for the Sunday or Monday.

Just look for some place that is away from any attractions or body of water. Usually, even on the holiday weekends we can find a place in a KOA near the interstate. We have found for extremely nice KOAs this way. Not the most desireable place to be spending, but sure beats the Walmart or Flying J.

When you look at a SC/NC map, you'll notice that as you travel "north" up the coast, you're actually travelling north-east, which puts you farther away from southern Ontario than you might have thought. We've found that Edisto Beach State Park, for example, is easier to get to from southern Ontario compared to the Myrtle Beach or Murrell's Inlet area. Have you been to Charleston, SC? A few days at James Island County Park might be a good idea. From there, it's interstates all the way home, unlike the Myrtle Beach route. Certainly the outer banks region deserves a trip, but it's not really on the "way home" IMHO.
