What is the most scenic area to camp in the Smokies that is the closest to southeast Louisiana. Going to Gulf Shores mid June to finish my vacation that was interrupted by kidney stones a few weeks ago. Looking to go a little cooler in July and wanting some input on the Smokies. Want something really laid back and with full hook-ups. Thanks in advance for your replies....Steve A. Dagro

Based on your criteria of full hook-ups, laid back and closest to Louisiana, I would pick Townsend, Tennessee. I have attached a listing of the CGs in the area. Have a great trip.

I would agree with Townsend TN. Much quieter than Pigeon Forge or Gatlinburg. We have always stayed at Tremont Hills Campground. Nice campground with full hookups located on the Little River. If you get a waterfront site, you will have your own deck overlooking the river. Very nice and quiet. Don't think you'll be disappointed. Plus it's only 8 or 9 miles to Cades Cove, which is not to be missed!!!!

I agree, you can't beat Tremont Hills located in Townsend. Ask for a river front site in Section A. You want be disappointed. I have plenty of pictures in my photo album

You’ll have to eat breakfast at least one time at the Backporch restaurant while there. We usually eat there on our way back home. You can park your rig across the street and walk over. They have great homemade biscuits and gravy and wonderful Belgium waffles.

Cades Cove CG inside the park is one of the most beautiful places in the Smokies.... Old cabins, grist mill, waterfalls. An 11 mile loop road runs around the cove.. you can drive it, bike (rentals available), or walk. Horseback riding is available in the cove. As most NP CG, no electricity and 35ft TT limit. there are generator loops available.
