It's a 38V - 2 slide model.

Here's what I know about it;

- original owner
- new roof in 2005
- new tires in 2007
- new 25' awning
- 114,000 miles
- 5400 hours on diesel geneset
- used by an individual that didn't like to fly, it was a mobile office
- Cummins ISB 300HP with 6-speed Allison
- seller states 10-12MPG

I have not yet seen the coach, but have talked to the seller, and she moved to a farm and does not use it anymore. It's now stored with mothballs. (Will having mothballs in there leave a permanent smell in there??)

The NADA Low Retail on it is about $55K and I think I can buy it for $45K or less.

The price is right for my budget range, and with newer tires, roof, etc - and other than high miles, is there anything else to watch out for?

She did say the genset got an oil change every 150 hrs and every year she had the roof washed/recaulked with a replacment in 2005 because the shop said it looked bad.

Thoughts?

Owners - do you like them or have you had a lot of problems??

Probably worth the money, but the claimed mileage is high.

The miles are "high" but it has been used constantly and maintained.

A question I have is how does Fleetwood quality line up with Tiffin/Newmar/Winnebago?

I got a few photos of it today and the interior looks very well maintained and the DW likes the decor' as it matches our current beadspread...

Any more comments?

Discovery is fine. The miles are a little high but the diesel chassis can handle it if preventive maintenance was performed regularly. I would look at the interior to see if that shows wear after all of that use. I bet it does. Pictures might not convey the condition of the interior and seeing it in person would be much better. I did a calculation and the generator hours amount to 225 days of continuous use. That is pretty huge, but it might not be a problem with a diesel generator. The 300 HP engine is probably on the low side for a 38' MH. Check the weight and see if the weight per HP is under 100 lbs. Since I have a 2000 Cummins ISB I have other things you should look out for. You can PM me if you wish. Fleetwood and Winnebago are about equivalent in my opinion and Tiffen and Newmar are both a big step up.

As a Discovery owner with a 275hp Cummins, I would not worry about the 300hp, it will be plenty to keep you moving, as folks say, you wont be the first to the top, but you will get decent fuel economy. I average 10-11 in mine. I would also not worry too much about the mileage as these engines will usually outlive you in a motorhome, as long as the maintenance has been done. I am a tad concerned as to why somebody just 'replaces' a roof on a five year old motorhome because it looked bad? Check the ceiling inside and make sure there are no signs of water damage.

I owned a 37V (that is what you are looking at) 300 engine was a good engine and probably averaged 9.5 mpg. Really liked the mh. Traded for a 2005 39S. Low mileage for a diesel engine.

114k is not much for the diesel but it's a lot of wear and tear on every thing else.
That is a VERY well used coach. Plan on doing a fair amount of reconditioning. Personally, I'd keep looking. It's a buyers market so there are lots of great deals out there right now with much lower miles and usage.

I agree that it has been used quite a lot, but the asking price is $10-15K below LOW retail on NADA, so even if I have to throw $5-10K at it I'm still doing pretty well, don't you think?

For the same price I was looking at Winnebago Adventurer 34V's that have a much more basic interior and a 4-speed trans and an LP genset, where this has the diesel genset, the 6-speed auto and a very "rich" interior.

I need to get my set of eyes on it and evaluate how it really looks, I'm also planning to call the shops that serviced it.

Did I miss it, or did you not say what year the coach is? With that mileage it must be a 99 or 00 or earlier. I seriously doubt the mileage, think it will be more like 9mpg.

I have a friend that has a great deal on an 00 Monaco 38-foot with two slides that is loaded. He is selling for medical reasons. He is also including a lot in Florida with the coach. If interested contact me at rbdtanasi at yahoo and I will send you the info. I have no interest in the sale, just trying to help the guy out.

It's a 2000 - and the owner is the original owner and said 12MPG is the top, but 10-11 has been more the average.

Even 9MPG is great... compared to most coaches.
