We usually camp with 3 to 5 households. Breakfast and lunch you eat when ever you see someone cooking something you like and you are hungry since there is always enough really to much being prepared and breakfast starts at my camper at 7:30 AM and ends at one of my friends around 11:00 AM with multiple pots of coffee brewing all morning including a few double shots of expresso and some coffee flavored brandy for the real hardy folk. Supper we just all eat together. We cook enough for your own family plus just a little extra put it out and everyone digs in. We have never gone hungry while we are camping thats for sure. I think we eat better while we are camping then when we are at home.
What I prefer is play it by ear and what ever happens happens. That way no one feels responsible to feed my family.

we camp with adults only and keep meals open. When we try to pre-plan, etc potluck, seems like a scheduled ANYTHING is unhealthy for our group. Our group motto has become "No commitment, no schedule, no guilt!"
Now, when I was a kid, we camped with 10 families and the adults pre-planned meals and snacks for weeks before the trip...maybe as a way to stretch out the trip excitment!

We'll normally each cook our own but frequently outside. Sometimes we share desserts. That way if anyone has something they can't eat for whatever reason, it does not become any kind of issue and no one has to have a skimpy meal.

we usually plan all our dinners with everyone before we go sometimes we all chip it a few bucks for 1 big meal and us guys cook it. Or we all bring the same thing for 1 meal enough for our own family to eat but then we all eat together. Breakfast is like a buffet everyone brings something different and we all pick and choose. And then depending on who we camp with we sometimes just eat our own thing at the same dinner time. We have went out to dinner just not often and even ordered pizza once.

When we go camping with my parents and my sister's family, we each take turns planning and cooking a dinner. So one night my hubby and I will cook for everyone, and the next night my BIL will cook for everyone. I like it this way because you only have to plan one or two dinners, and the other nights you can relax while someone else cooks! I usually pre-make whatever it is I'm bringing, unless of course it's something on the grill. That way there's less work and more time for fun. Breakfasts and lunch are on our own.

All 4 depending on how many show up. Try breakfast or hot dog roast for 600+ can be real fun. If we cook fresh Hungary hot dogs or sausage on the grill we usually cook extra for the friends who smell the smoke. At least one pot luck with chapters. You did forget the group get together at a restaurant for lunch or dinner.

....how do you handle dinner ??
Very from trip to trip. Depends on whats going on and location.. And how many folks are camping together.
1- Everyone takes care of their own meals( most breakfast and lunch's are handle Own your own but that never stops us from sharing extra food with each other. to much sausage gravy you share with others. to many bacon strips share with others as it seems all never get up the same times or cook the same times. MANY be once a year or so we have breakfast together.)
2- Pot luck style where everyone contributes something( this usually is on Friday night we plan a menu and some one jumps on their special food item.. Meat is several help to pay for that and one or more cooks it. See my webshots for Charleston, SC 2007 11 families and we had Luau Pot luck..)(See Thanksgiving 2007 16 families)
3- Take turns making the meals ( this never happens)
4- Play it by ear, whatever happens, happens. ( this is every day with food and kids & teenagers) maybe we plan an evening out on Saturday night and try and go early to beat crowds plus be able to sit half way together.
Which do you prefer and why ?? I prefer to go with the flow, what ever everybody wants to do I am game..I like to eat with my family alone and i like to spend time with my friends who we are camping with
This last trip we had 9 families and never shared a meal together only passed a few breakfast items around and we did do a Ice Cream social on Friday night with 3 flavors(chocolate, cherry, vanilla)all home made..Pictures of that too on webshots.

Beakfast and lunch with close friends is usually 'do your own thing'. But for dinner we wing it most of the time. It goes something like this:
"What do y'all wanna do?"
"I dunno, what do y'all wanna do?"
"Well whatever y'all wanna do is fine with us."
This will be repeated several more times during the next hour or so over cocktails before someone finally makes a single sugestion which, of course, is fine with everybody else.

We usually have some sort of a basic menu for dinners. Steaks, chicken, hamburgers, what have you and everybody brings their own meat. And then each family is responsible for a salad or desert. Again, this is planned out a few days in advance. Breakfast and lunches are on our own. Sometimes breakfast was one big get together too, but again if so it was planned in advance who brought what.

Somebody will go into the woods and kill some camp meat and we will cook it in a pit or on a spit. We will then share that meat with the entire camp.
While someone is hunting the meat, others will hunt for roots and berries. Whatever is found is shared.
All the while, someone else will be brewing and distilling the drink for the group.
A good time is had by all.
Well, it sounds like fun, but actually EVERY ONE of our friends (we don't have many) is engaged in some really screwy diet and we can not eat that low on the food chain. We always prepare and eat our own stuff.
If we are staying together for more than a week, one of the screwy dieters will usually like to show off how closely their diet resembles real food and will invite us to share with them. We always accept the invitation. When we reciprocate with an invitation, they usually decline with "regrets".
