Does anyone know.... Its it ok to go to the weigh station that tractor trailer trucks use to weigh? We have been thinking about going to a place like this to weigh our truck, then weigh the truck and 5er just so we can know for sure what our weights are. Does anyone know anything about this. Is it ok? Would it work? Is it a good idea? Whatcha think? Thanks...The Family

If it is open, I doubt they will be happy about you pulling in, they will likely wave you through, and not give you time to weigh, or even ask if you can weigh. Some don't have gates and some have the scales always on, I guess then it would be ok.

I believe your questions related to using the scales at truck stops and, yes you can use them. A truck driver friend of mine told me the Cat Scales were considered the most accurate. There is a fee (about $16 I think). Try to pick a time when no trucks are waiting and go in the scale house and ask about their procedure. You should weigh the rig full of fuel and all the stuff you take with you, then go to the back of the lot, take the camper off and weigh the truck by itself.

Your local moving company, gravel company or garbage compony will have a scale and probably weigh your unit either free or for a small fee. Weigh stations don't usually accept RVx/

I thought he was talking about road side weigh stations... ? If not, then yes, you can use the scales at truck stops. I have several times. You pull onto the scale, put your front axle, rear and trailer axles on different scales, pick up the phone and talk to the nice lady. She will ask for your company name and truck number, just tell her you are an RV and give her your name. It usually costs 8-10 bucks with a free re-weigh. You can drop your trailer and reweigh the truck if you like.

Here in Oregun I do it all the time as long as the scales are closed. They normally leave the scales turned on and just close the office. I can always get the weights.

The majority of the state weigh station now have electronics scales. They can be used 24 hours a day as Donn)128 stated.
I use them more than normal to check loading.
When they are closed is the best time. Gives plenty of time to weigh each corner front and back as well as toad in my case.
I log in how much fuel, water and grey/black tank levels.
