My plan is to always keep 5-7 years but have never got past 4 max with a few at 2. Next week is 3 years with current trailer and it looks like I may really make it to 5 or 6 years due to very high negative equity. Randy

First RV, a TT we kept about 9 months before trading up to a 34 ft 5er. I imagine we'll keep it 3-5 yrs, but who knows?

It is always a tough decision, it seems like they depreciate a great deal in the early years, I was told 7% per year. I have traded 5 times in 7 years, but all the time it was for a bigger unit. Now I am maxed out, and really love the unit. So, I don't know when I will trade it.
I would think, that there is a point were there is little less depreciation. Probably the best way is to buy a used one, but, I never know, how it was treated.

ak_traveler wrote: Well we kept our travel trailer for not quite a year before trading up to the fifth wheel! We made a bad decision on the travel trailer - it wasn't the trailer's fault (I still like the layout that trailer had) it just didn't work as we had hoped.
But our Cougar is another matter and we hope to keep it and keep using it for many more years!
I could say almost exactly the same thing. Bought an '07 TT in late '06 and loved the layout, but it developed some pretty severe, chronic mechanical issues that just make it more of a headache than it was worth. Traded up to a 5er and are VERY happy with the decision and barring issues similar to those that developed with the TT, this one will likely be around for at least a couple years (wink!).

I was told,if you are going to trade it in, no more then 3 to 5 years after that the trade in and resale value goes way down.

10 years on our first TT-went to get it out of storage and the roof had gone bad. Would still have it otherwise.

Kept the first a TT for a few months but just not what we wanted so traded up for a 5er and plan on keeping it for a long time. Probably never get another unless something unforseen happens.
