i would ask for a new door to be installed. heaven forbid that that hole cause problems later down the road that the diamond plating may cover.

but i think next time you have work done you do a complete inspection inside and out, with a fine tooth comb.

you should speak to the owner and tell him you feel that while you made the mistake of trusting them to complete the job w/o any further damage that if they do not fix there mistake, you will let anyone and everyone you come across know there shotty work.

Folks after working on our roof from the pass few days my daughter summed it up well when she said if you want it done right you have to do it yourself but I now this is not always possible. The radio antenna (the long term issue) had no sealant put under it when new but was just screwed down to the rubber and caulked around the base. Had they sealed it like the roof ladder roof connection it would still not be leaking. At some point the old TV antenna was replaced and the hole left by the old one was duck taped and sealed over. Well it make for easy removable of the old patch as we prep the area to reseal all removed antenna opens with Eternabond.

Workmanship issues could be a plentiful as Walmart parking and 6v vs 12v threads I expect.

$1000 door, Wow, they must get them from the same place the military buys its $400. hammers. They broke it, they fix it. You are getting good advice from the above posters. I am sure that they will replace the door if you insist upon it. Good luck.

I agree 100%. Everytime that door slams shut you will cringe thinking that more cracking/splitting is being done.
As others stated, calmly discuss this with the dealer and work for an amicable solution.

I have no idea what the weight of "diamond plating" might be. I would be concerned that the added weight would adversely affect the the hinge system on the door. It was designed for the weight of the door before the addition of the "diamond plate". Also, my minds eye surely doesn't like the image that results from thinking about the proposed band aid. There is also likely an adverse impact on resale. They broke it, they fix it!
Good luck, and stick to your guns.

Hey Vic46...

Great argument, lol! I hadn't even thought of the added weight issue

I emailed back to Jayco and to the dealership because of the arguments and the overwhelming response from the peanut gallery here...almost 100% in favor of replacing the doo!

Thanks again guys!

Mark

I would not like the look of the diamond plate in that location. I would insist on a new door. They damaged it, they are responsible for it. They should be insured if the damage is more than they are comfortable paying for.

I ran into a similar situation with a Jayco dealership and Jayco's factory rep. What it boils down to is "what will you accept?" If you get nowhere with the dealership, call Jayco and simply tell them "anything other than repplacement is unacceptable." If that doesn't work with the rep, ask to speak with their supervisor which usually drives a sharp thorn up the you know what and I'll betcha a new door will be installed.

As a last recourse, which worked for me, take pictures and contact your insurance......not to file a claim but simply as a point of contact. If Jayco sees that you mean business and your insurance company is going to put some heat on them by holding Jayco and the dealership at fault for the damage, you'll get a new door.

Don't settle for anything less than what you would "prefer" be done to make your travel trailer "right".

I'd ask for the replacement door or make sure that Jayco OK's the diamond plate incase there are problems with the fix later on down the road.
