2005 Coachmen Cross Country 38 SE 300 Cummings Allison 5 speed
This rig will not keep a battery disconnect and they keep burning up. There are 4 batteries 2 chasis 12v Alliances and 2 6v Interstates. The factory was of little help in solving this issue and the dealer was of no help. The last disconnect lasted 2 days. My guess is it may be in the battery arrangement and this has been overlooked. There appears to be bleed through even when the disconnect is off and the main switch is off. I assume things like the co2 are still drawing power. My main question is what is the proper battery set up connections to insure the right voltage for both the coach and the chasis.

The two 12 volt batteries should be wired in parallel. That is positive to positive providing you have 12 volt starting system. It should be 12 volt starting.
The six volt batteries are wired in series. Positive to negative. House would then pick up from the positive on one battery and negative off the other.
Sure sounds like the charge relay may be wired incorrectly. Could be the chassis is wired positive ground and house is wired negative ground putting 24 volts into system. This would burn out the coils in the battery disconnects very rapidly.
Do you have an inverter? Try disconnecting it completely from the system. Recheck readings. Turn off breakers and pull fuse in the inverter to completely disconnect.
Part of the chassis stays hot even with battery disconnects operated in the disconnect mode.

I have the same motorhome, but have not encountered the problem. I have been careful not to have the battery disconnect disconnected when plugged into shore power, as the little green light stays on in such a condition. I do not know if this is harmful to the disconnect mechanism or not, but if you have been doing otherwise You might check it out. Hope you get it fixed.

Our '04 stays plugged in at home to 50 amp circuit. Never mess with the disconnect unless someone inadvertantly turns it off, or when doing "pre-flight" checks. No problems in 4 years. Using two 12v 27s for house current. Maybe Interstates have been wired backwards?

MY Beaver just blew the master "house" disconnect. I can find no reason for it to blow whatsoever. I wonder if anyone else has had problems with the switch they put in Monaco products?

Rwethereyet,
Maybe I can be of some help if you can give me a little bit more information. Is this something that just started happening? Was there any maintenance done just before it started happening and if so, what was done? You say that the disconnect is burning up, are the fuses on the solenoid blowing or is the relay itself going out?
I believe that I have the proper schematics to help you find the problem and if you can answer the questins above and give me the answers either here or by PM, I will try to help you find the problem. I had similar problems with a 2002 Cross Country but I know that the problem that I had was fixed in all 2004 and later coaches. At least I thought it was.

Interesting Posts. I just got home from Fort Wildeness and my battery disconnect is gone too. I had to jump the Selenoid using postive to postive and it worked great. Now, i can't turn it off without going in there and disconnecting one of the posts. How much is it going to costs to replace the Selenoid and am I hearing correctly that you should never turn the battery disconnect off? There is 30 days or so sometime before i use mine and it not connected to power. I was told during delivery to turn it on/off everytime i enter/leave the coach for any "extended" period. I woudl like to know if I am burning it out myself by something i am doing or got a hold of a bad one.

Badeye,
Not sure on the answers as the rig was at the factory with a whole list of stuff to be done so not sure exactly which one would have caused it. The rig was there in the fall of 2006 and we picked up in November. We traveled to Florida where it was in storage over the winter just starting the rig every few weeks. Upon traveling back north noticed that the disconnect was not working. I ordered a new one (Mcraigjones $70 including shipping) installed it and it lasted two days. When it fails you're down and out so as instructed by the factory when the first one blew I had to bypass it like mentioned above to close the slides and such. We ran all summer last year with out it so figured I'd try again this year but wanted to research it before installing a new unit. I did order another one and it is due in Tuesday. It is an INTELLITEC RELAY BATTERY DISCONNECT 01-00055-000 that was in the unit and that is what I have ordered. The fuses are not blowing it is the unit it self.
Hope this helps.

The listed disconnect uses a momemtary revrsing voltage usually through an electronic "black Box".
Have you located the electronics? If not locate it, get model number then get troubleshooting guide from Intellitec.
These can be hard to find but could be a dirty connection on circuit board connector.

Rwethereyet,
I am going to send the part number to someone at Sportscoach and see if I can get the correct schematic as I do not have the correct one at home. This may take a couple of days. I will be away at a rally and am not sure about my ability to have internet service as yet. I will contact you as soon as I know something for sure.
One question, have you had occasion to use the Aux Start relay? There was a problem in the past where using the Aux Start would cause failure of the coach battery disconnect relay. Just curious as this might give me a clue on helping you chase this one down.
enblethen, I will check also for the location of the controller s used with this disconnect. I think that it is on the back of the switch panel but I am not sure.
