I've been looking at some of the posts and noticed someone said to use silicone treatment on the seal?

I had one leak on me at about 75,000 miles. Along w/ a new seal, had to replace my emergency brake as well. No problems since and I'm @ 118,000 now.

General Motors has upgraded the rear axle seals a few times. Be sure to go to your GM dealer to get the new seals, the aftermarket hasn't upgraded theirs yet & they will leak. I learned the hard way!

donn0128, my wife is mad at you. The axle seal that went is on her side of the truck. I guess she is to heavy. I never run my 5th wheel with the tanks full. I've towed my 5th wheel over 30,000 miles without a problem. The truck has 88,000 miles on it. I just think the seal was ready to go. I replaced the bearings and seal in my driveway yesterday. I'm going to change the rear axle gear oil today.

Just for grins, and while you are under the truck anyway......

You might want to check the little rubber breather tube on top of the axle housing just to be sure it is not plugged with a dirt dobber nest. Will only take 2 mins. and will give peace of mind.
