I am also new at this. HAve not yet taken first trip or used dump station for the first time. I have seen a few references to truck stop dump stations? Is it normal for truck stops to have dump stations?

Some do, some don't. Most campgrounds do, especially State and National parks. Some rest stops in some states do as well. Some gas stations do also, and when you fill the tank you get a free use.

There is a website listing dumpsites rvdumps.com throughout the country.

There is some confusing information here. Some say run your black tank until clear. Others say dump and go. I guess the dump and go guys are the ones that have sensors that do not work properly and black tanks with an odor problem. By the way, wife says it only took about 15 minutes, guess it seemed like thirty to me. Sure did push a lot of folks button.

Thanks for the link. I checked out the website and it has a lot of good info on it. Looks like it could be a big help!!

That would be a bit of an oversimplification of reality. Depending on chemicals used, quantity of water used, type of TP used, addition of water softener, in tank flusher present, quality of tank vent design, condition of toilet seal, and quality of in-tank sensors, not to mention size and shape of tanks, it does take some longer to dump than others. But dump and go does not necessarily mean inop tanks sensors or smell, any more than spending 3o minutes flushing guarentees that everything will work properly and not smell.

Do what works for you.

we can dump fairly quickly, and check our work when we are done(make sure valves are tight, close low water drain, make sure sewer hose cap is tight). 5-10 minutes maybe.
However, due to several negative( and quite childish) behaviors from the vehicle behind us at the dump stations, we now plan our trips to arrive midweek and leave midweek. We really didn't like feeling that someone behind us was pushing our routine and hated pulling away from a camping trip feeling stressed out.
Seems for some that the peaceful, relaxed attitude of a campground ends at the entrance to the dump station. Sad

OK Ok I will dive in. I don’t tend to get too uptight about the whole thing. As long as people are prepared when they get there and then don’t waist time doing non dump related activities (like talking on their cell phone) I let it go. The people that really doodle must somehow enjoy playing in the s#i$. If there is a line (usually is) I get out my sewer hose and rinse hose long before I get to the front. I use disposable gloves so the pair I put on is always clean so I put them on early as well. As soon as I pull up the drain hose is connected and placed. Then the black tank valve is pulled (so far about 30seconds have elapsed). While the black tank is draining I hook up my rinse hose to the spigot and then to the tank rinse connection on the side of my trailer. After that I contemplate life for about another 30 seconds while the black tank finishes draining. (Now I am in for about 120 seconds) At that point I open up the grey valve. At the same time I turn on the rinse hose into the black tank so it can rinse while the grey tank is draining. Once again I contemplate life for about 60 seconds or maybe a few seconds more. Next I shut the black valve and let the grey drain for about 10 more seconds. (Clock is at about 250 seconds now) Then I shut the grey and disconnect the sewer line. Then I turn off the water to the rinse hose (leaving the rinse hose on for a few seconds with the valve closed leaves some water in the black tank to slosh around a clean things up in there), disconnect the rinse hose from the trailer turn the water back on and rinse the drain hose and surrounding area (as to leave a clean dump site for the next guy). After that I Roll up the hoses put them away and pull ahead so the next guy can get in. Takes me about 360 seconds (6 mins) total and that includes a rinsed tank and hose and leaving a clean dump site for the next guy.

After that I wash my hands and do one more walk around to make sure the rig is ready for the road.

You are very fortunate with an attitude like that to have not met my brother. He has no patience for you.
He would assist you in finishing and it doesn't bother him to get arrested; oh well!
I hate doing things around people with him, its a pain to be around someone that is getting that upset. He is on drugs for it and they have calmed him down some but not enough for you're attitude.
