I use Jeremy's 3rd picture on both my PUP and my Car Hauler, they work great. I clamp them tight inside the open hitch, then lock them. That prevents the hitch latch from engaging to tow and the clamp top will not allow it to remove. On my PUP, I also lock the latch open.

I've got a coupler lock too...I know it's mostly for show but agree with the "too much trouble theory. I'm going to employ BOC method also.
As back up I also have Lucy the ferocious Pit Bull. :-)

We had one of are trailers at work with one of those fancy ball/cover locks and sombody just drilled out the keyway and took it off.
That's what I use on all my trailers. Cheap and effective.

I've been using that same lock on my current Starcraft and on my previous Rockwood. Neither would clamp down with the lock in, but that's not the purpose. It's suppose to clamp around the lip, with it's extending, key locking, shaft.
Have a good one.

I give up...how do you move a 3500# camper if the hitch is up against the garage?

That's the whole idea! Actually, I just mean facing the garage instead of the more theft inviting position of facing the street. Though, I almost have to pull into the garage (around the trailer) in order to back up correctly to hitch up. Again, not much of a hassle for me, but to a would-be thief it's less attractive....hard for a quick get away.

New2RVees,
I am using the exact same lock that you have with no problems! It does fit a bit loose, and the coupler does NOT clamp down, but the hitch is covered therefore doing it's job!
I also worried about this at first, but worrying was not the answer.
Just push the "lock" in as far as it will go, lock the unit with the key and take off for another adventure!

Thanks, all.
Yeah, the coupler lock is mostly for show anyway.
Again, the only thing that made me think something was "wrong" with the lock was the picture on the packaging, which shows a coupler clamped down on the lock ball, and the sliding "bolt" of the lock clamping down over the closed coupler.
In fact, it doesn't work exactly that way for me, but it's still as effective as a coupler lock can be.
Actually, the BOC is the best visual deterant! I bought the thickest/strongest chain I could fit through my mag wheels/brake assembly, and a heavy-duty hardened-steel "contractors" lock. The only bummer is now I'm carrying around an extra 20 pounds (or so) in chain/lock weight! Makes my PUP look like some sorta wild animal!
