I have spoken to the local authorities. Thier comments is that it is legal to have people in the 5th wheel while you are driving as long as you have open communication (ie walkie talkies). What is your oponion. IS IT SAFE? I have a 32' 5th wheel toy hauler, & GMC diesel.

It is legal in some states. I would never let anyone ride in my fifth wheel. Ever!

We did years ago when we were young & stupid. I even tried rideing back there it was not a good ride if someone gets car sick make sure they ride in the bathroom.

Never!

I was a paramedic that had to move around in the back of a moving ambulance. I can tell you that this caused multiple injuries from cuts and lacerations to one co worker with a broken ankle. Keep in mind that we could see and hear what was happening. In a 5th wheel the people riding in it never will get a warning in time to brace themselves. In addition, in the unlikely event of a accident, I would feel sorry for anyone in the trailer as I do not believe that the structure is strong enough to afford any real protection.

To the OP. This is one of those topics that usually get people emotionally involved with hysterical responses.

I would suggest that instead of asking for opinions for which this board is loaded, find yourself a safe stretch of road, implement your two way radios and give it a try. You might like it or you might not. It is not for us to decide for you.

While I know of one family who has and will do so again I do not think that makes it right for you. If you have the right setup and it offers a smooth ride...it is no worse than riding on the back bed in a class A.....IMHO. I've done both.
