We are new RV'ers and have just purchased a 40 ft travel trailer from a wholesaler. On the over 400 mile return home with the trailer in tow, a window fell off. Once home, we noticed mold on two of the mattresses and on the wall. We were told by the wholesaler to have a local RV place to send an estimate of repairs and they would pay whatever it took to make it right. When we arrived at the local RV place, we were told the brakes on the trailer were missing. The wholesaler advised us to add that to our list also(even though we had already paid the wholesaler for the brakes, but they neglected to install them).

First off, welcome to the Open Road Forums. We're all glad you've joined us.

I'm sorry your first post had to be about problems with your newly purchased travel trailer. I've never heard of that many major issues with a new trailer.

So far, what's the outcome with the wholesaler? I'd probably be in discussions with a lawyer and possibly getting another trailer or my money back.

Welcome to the Open Road Forums!

I agree with Chuck...sorry for you misfortune...did your local dealer indicate they could fix the issues? Mold would worry me...

I'd demand a different TT personally...

joe.

Hello and welcome!

It sounds like the window that fell out was an emergency escaper window that wasn`t latched properly!

As far as the brakes go. HOW IN THE HEL.. er WORLD DID YOU MAKE IT HOME?!!! are you talking about the TT not having brakes installed on the axles or the brake controller not being installed in the truck! either way a very dangerous mistake/oversight!

I'd make the 400 mile return trip, after having the brakes fixed of course, and demand a different unit or refund including fuel cost for the return trip.

Also the mold indicates moisture and that can mean all kinds of trouble.

No. I'd get back whatever money you gave them, and tell them to come get their trailer.

I don't think we have the full story here?
I realize we were ALL new RVrs at one point but I find it very scary that someone could be so "new" (read -uninformed?) to tow a 40 foot trailer 400 miles with NO BRAKES and not know it!
I find it amazing the trip was made without a crash.
good luck to the OP, you may need it as I think you have used most of yours up.

I'm lost on the lat line of the OP. Did you pay extra to have the brakes installed??? I'm not an RV expert or anything but I always assumed the brakes were part of the TT.

It sounds like the wholesaler is trying to make things right. Send them an estimate of everything that is wrong with your new TT and if they truly conduct good business, they will pay.

Welcome to the Forum.
Now, take the TT back to the dealer and get another one, mold is not your friend. If you found it in one or two places, it will be in others. Bad news.
