In the spirit of friendly conversation.....

Tell me about your very favorite RVing trip. Was it a dream trip to Alaska ?? A weekend with your buddies ?? The first time you saw the Grand Canyon ?? Or maybe it was a trip when everything went wrong but looking back you wouldn't trade it for anything.

My favorite RVing trip to date was our 3 week trip to South Dakota last summer. We were able to take our time there and back enjoying sites along the way. We weren't overly scheduled or planned. We got to see the 4th of July fireworks over Mt. Rushmore. It was fun to be there for the first time with the kids and taking it all in together.

My favorite moment that trip was one night when we were on our way back to camp after a full day of sightseeing. The kids were all asleep in the car and Chad and I were driving down the mountain from Mt. Rushmore. It was about midnight and the stars were amazing that night. We found a place to pull off the road and he and I got out of the car. There wasn't a manmade light in sight, and no moon either. I've never seen that many stars in my life !! We just held hands and listening to the sounds of nature. It was only about 20 minutes, but it was soooo nice.

Sounds like a wonderful memory! I can't pin down one "best" trip, as there have been many of them, each with their ups & downs. One that stands out, though, also involves a trip to the Black Hills. Our original plan was to take a 2-week trip (I forget to where) earlier in the season, but our tow vehicle was in an accident and was out of commission for almost 2 months (major repairs!) It was getting near the end of the season, and we desperately wanted to do SOMETHING. We ended up borrowing our old minivan back from the friend we had sold it to, and pulling our PUP to the Black Hills for about a 10-day trip. We spent 5 nights at the Rafter J Bar, which we loved, and just enjoyed touring around the Hills. Even drove into Wyoming one day, just for the heck of it. We left home on Labor Day Monday; traffic was good, the weather was beautiful, and the crowds in the Black Hills had gone home. For a hastily-planned trip, it was delightful.

In 2002 we were on the road for about seven months, DW, our Golden (Brandy) and myself. We visited 15 NP's in the lower 48, went to Alaska, which wasn't that much of a big deal for us. The place we were most excited about was Banff and Jasper NP's in Alberta. We really didn't spend enough time there and maybe someday we will be able to go back again.
When we got back home DW had to go back to work and will be able to retire in about 4 years, hopefully then we will be back on the road again for more adventures.

I retired in 2005. Wife and I left NJ for a 2 month stay at the KOA in Wade, NC. We spent that time with our son and his family. Cold, rainy, windy weather but very enjoyable. We then went south to Florida to pick up I-10. Stayed 3 days with my brother in Mobile. He took us to New Orleans for the day. Then we spent about 10 days going west. Stopped in Blythe, CA to visit an old friend and relax for the 400+ mile drive to Hanford. We finally moved into a stick house in June.

We have a 24 foot travel trailer. My wife and I shared the floor space with a 60 pound Springer Spaniel. I enjoyed every campground that offered free Wi-Fi or had room to walk the dog. My wife enjoyed me not having to get up every morning to go to work.

We are now at Pismo Beach for a short week stay. Still have the trailer and dog. Still loving not going to work. Wife is off shopping and enjoying every minute of retirement.

We've been RVing since 1964 and have been in 49 states and several Canadian provinces. Only missed Hawaii. I guess our best trip has probably been the last one, or maybe, the next one. Impossible for me to give a more specific answer.

It is hard to pick between four of our trips. One to Maine, one to UP of Michigan, one to 4 national parks(Badlands, Theodore Roosevelt, Yellowstone, and Rocky Mountain), or Utah in 2006. We talk the most about going back to South Dakota. We have Alaska on our dream list for 2012 the year after retirement.

Of course it was not a RV trip, but our two week visit/cruise to Hawaii was awesome.

My #1 favorite was the 19 day trip to Yellowstone in 2006 with stops at Lewis and Clark Carverns, Cody, Yellowstone, Grand Tetons, Craters of the Moon and Lake Payette.

Did the entire trip with a very good friend (TH), my best friend's family (TT) and my parents who meet us in Cody and left after GTNP.

We did caving, museums, rodeos, rafting, hiking, horseback riding, biking, photography, swimming, hot tubbing, fine dining, road side attractions, lava flows, jet skiing, and I'm sure I left a few things out.

Over the last eight seasons I've had many great adventures with friends riding dirt bikes throughout Washington and one epic trip in Idaho last summer. My gosh we have fun!!

Then there are the family and friends trips to the beach every other year.

RV'g is the best hobby for me by a long shot.

Our best trip is the one we just took, unless we are on one at the time in which case it is that one.
