I just recently finished my hard plumbed - hard wired macerator installation, and have switched over from using a garden hose for the discharge side. I now have two lengths of discharge hose - - the flat stuff that rolls up like a little fire hose. Each length about 12 feet long, and with means to couple the two together for a longer run.
This discharge hose has the advantage of being large bore (1 1/4 inch I.D.) and lightweight. The throughput is awsome. However, I cannot overstress the necessity for having the outlet end of the hose well secured before throwing the switch. Just for trial purposes, I filled my grey tank with nice clear water. Stuck the outlet end of the hose about 4 feet down into my driveway dump/cleanout. Hit the switch and instantly the high pressure/volume blew the end of the hose out of the dump port, resulting in several gallons of (clean thankfully) water shooting all over my driveway.
To complete the grand experiment, I then attached what I'd call a "campground fitting" to the end of the hose. It is one of those manufactured right/angle el fittings, that adapts to several different sizes of dump/cleanout ports. I'm told those are now required in many campgrounds. Anyhow, this test was very successful with all the water going where it belonged.
In balance, I like the flat discharge hose for its throughput, and easy storage. It is easily kinked tho, so must be layed out in such a fashion as to avoid kinks.
The thing to watch is the "blowout" possibility. If that happens while dumping the black tank, you're gonna be RV'er non grata - - and likely as not, they won't invite you back to THAT campground.
The reason for spelling is so that all of the words don't look the same.

Where did you get the "flat" hose? Who makes it?
Thanks

The flat hoses are available at camping world - I bought a couple for my freshwater fillup on my popup camper. You can get them on a reel and they wind up nicely.

I used a different kind of hose. I needed 100' extension to the macerator for when we "camp" at friends/relatives homes and need to get to their sewer. I thought about the flat type hose, I've used them for swimming pools and such for years but have found them not to be 100% reliable, as you indicate.
What I use is a 1" ID clear plastic hose from Granger, 100' long. It's a bit more cumbersome than the flat version, but rolls up nicely on a large spool. The benefit for this is it screws on to the standard camp ground fitting perfectly and is not subject to kinking or any kind of blockage. Since it's clear, the progress of the dump can be monitored and when finished, it can be checked for cleanliness easily.
The standard hose that came with our macerator is 20' so for any CG purposes, it's perfect.

I use a standard 3/4 inch rubber garden hose... BLACK for the macerator
I do agree with the need to make sure it don't blow out of what you stick it into
A proper "end fitting" is a good idea

The minimum inside diameter of the outflow hose from our macerator (Sani-con) is 1". Anything less causes pressure to build up and potentially can damage the motor. I suggest you read the manual for your model to confirm.

Oldusedbear,
Can you post some photos of your installation? I built a macerator setup from the basic marine version of the pump which are available a lot cheaper than the so-called RV setups and have an idea in my mind how I'll mount it but I hate to reinvent the wheel. Photos would be great!

I have switched to a clear plastic "suction" hose rather than the flat hose I had been using. Dealing with the kinks in the flat hose became a hassle. The suction hose is designed not to kink or collapse. This can be purchased at any farm supply store. I still carry my long flat hose with me just in case I need it for a longer distance, takes up very little space. I would recommend that once in awhile you remove the suction side of the pump and remove the hair etc. that gets wound around the cutter and shaft for more efficient operation.
