We just bought a used WW FS2600. When we were out in the desert last weekend, when the wind kicked up, our water heater wouldn't work. Does anyone have any information on how to fix this problem (other than not go out in the wind)?
UPDATE: We fixed the issue by replacing the 'brain'. It cost about $140. But works perfectly now.

That is one of the BIG advantages of getting a DSI water heater (with electronic ignition). Wind can blow out a pilot light but it won't blow out the main burner so the electronic ignition will continue to work. Most heaters with pilot light ignition will have a wind guard that is SUPPOSED to protect against a blow out but it's not perfect. Good luck / Skip

Did you have to keep re-lighting it, or did it just stop working? I don't know about a 2004, but my 2007 WW has a fusible link that blew and my water heater would not heat. I always carry a spare now.

Hit the reset button. Clean the terminals. I made the mistake of driving with the WH turned on. A buddy got it work with the reset. Actaully there are two resets. The one on the right kicked it on
Hope that helps.

There is a $.50 in line fuse. Look at the wire connections and you will see it. You cannot tell its blown by looking at it but very common in the wind for those to go out. Just remove it and plug the wire in directly and it should work fine. Not to insult you or anything, but if you are too low on water they won't turn on either. I wont tell you how I figured that one out after an hour...

I bought a $10 guard that goes over the vent at an RV supply store. It's supposed to block some of the wind. I haven't had a chance to try it yet and I probably could have made one. I saw small pieces of galvanized meal at Home Depot that would probably have worked.

Dont ask how I know this one, but there is a bypass valve for the water heater in my WW. It happens to be in the same compartment I use to store chairs. After a few hours of trying everything to figure out why the water heater didnt work, including cleaning the pilot light, checking the thermal fuse ( I carry spares), and various other things, I resorted to a cold shower. Noticed the valve when putting away chairs...
The heater worked the whole time- wouldnt fire up because it was already hot...

Can't tell you how glad I am to see everyone calling it a "water heater". The only thing that bugs me more than seeing toll-free numbers referred to as "1-800 numbers" (didn't we all learn to dial a one before the area code when we were in about third grade?) is to see/hear people call a water heater a "hot" water heater. If the water is hot, it doesn't need to be heated.

Tell me about it. We've been stuck at home with a house full of puppies since our trampy dog got knocked up over New Years. We're still a couple weeks away from being able to adopt the dogs out, but by then it'll probably be too hot to ride.
