There are several ways.. First HEIGHT IS MIGHT, If your Wi-Fi adapter is external to the computer try moving it to a higher place in the rig.
next there are Wi-Fi Range extenders.. Alas, if you google this you are going to find a lot of high-power routers, you need a repeater
you can also use a better wi-fi adapter. Such as the Hawking with the cute little microwave dish.. Believe it or not, that is a working directional antenna.
Or you can go whole hog if you like and make a very high gain antenna, Several articles on how to do this.. One is to make a "Can-Tenna" This is an antenna inside a Welch's Grape Juice can (or other can of about the same size) properly positioned you can pick up 2x or even 4x the range, or more.
One person mounted his wi-fi adapter in front of a common kitchen strainer (metal of course) reports great results.
Lots of articles on how to do these things here in the forums.
You can also take an old Sat-TV dish and mount the USB adapter on the milky plastic "lens" to the LNB & point it at the camp's router
(or a hughes/directway dish)
Amateur Logic TV has some segments on these things as well.. I'm not sure I agree with what they did with the "Cantenna" project (I would do it a lot easier) but if you GET MIRO (An internet tv program) at http://www.getmiro.com and then search for the AmateurLogic channel You should be able to download and view the program "Cantenna" It is episode 3
Nothin adds excitment like something that is none of your business

Another vote for the AirLink 3055. works like a champ - just remember to Disable your internal card when plugging it into the USB port. I locked into a hotel 1 mile away, across open water on the other side of a bay, but I was impressed. A 1/4 mile line-of-sight is typical for my experience.

Sometimes I just get amused with these threads. Build the cantanna or super duper 75" dish, disconnect the internal antenna, etc. ALL good advice if you are so inclined and want reception from 1 mile away. But the OP has a weak signal so maybe the Super USB antenna isn't the absolute best but you install the drivers, plug in the antenna and it works. OK flame away.

I vote for the Airlink USB adapters -- I owned four of them. The one I mounted on my TV antenna on my previous rig connected to an AP a mile away. I now have an Airlink 802.11n adapter ($25 at fry's) but haven't had a chance to try it out. Will hang it in the window of my new Fiesta LX next week and see what it will do.
I'm connected via an Airlink right now -- nice high speed open AP running via COMCAST at 3+mbs.

Right now I'm using the Millenicom Franklin Wireless Mobile Broadband modem which the Sprint PCS system in the Ocala-Gainesville, FL area. IF, I'm lucky I can get a 3 bar reading. At least it is better than the 1 bar I get on my T-Mobile cell phone. Checked both Sprint and T-mobile coverage areas and they both show P-poor coverage. An suggestions on a good air card, broadband mobile modem or whatever for use both at the RV park and while on the road on my laptop? Will only be on the road for a few months before heading back down south.

I had the same problem with my wife's new computer and need an fix NOW. Went to Office Depot and purchased and Aptiva USB wi-fi extender, $24.95 on sale. It has a desk top base that we put in the window and a 5 foot cord. It works as well as my $100.00 antennas that I have bought online.
