My computer has a built in wireless connection and the park I'm in has wi-fi but I'm on the fringe and I'm wondering if anyone has a suggestion on how to bring the signal in any better than very low. I keep losing the connection.

An external wifi adapter will usually work better than what is built in to your computer, especially if it has the ability to add an outdoor high-gain antenna. There are many such products on the market. Check the offerings of Hawking Technologies for starters.

Another very simple solution costs around $80 is a range extender from linksys. All you do is plug it into your outside outlet by the door, it will then amplify you signal greatly. I use the hawkings system and have a wifi dipole mounted on the bat wing. I regually connect from over a mile away, but its expensive to setup. But my advantage is we can all cruise around the campsite on or laptops on the internet at the same time...

i bought a cheap ($79) external unit from wal-mart. It didn't work as well as the internal card from Intel. there is a section in the Blog about wi-fi setups. It looks like John, above post, has the setup to use even though I have no idea on what a wifi diploe is. Would love to learn more.

Here is a good recommendation from forum member stevelv, that was discussed a few weeks back. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseac........hread/tid/20853606/srt/pa/pging/1/page/1
I purchased the listed equipment and it works just as Steve said it would. The USB adapter listed only works on Windows XP, not Vista. There is said to be a set of computer drivers for Vista on the company web site but I haven't been able to access them for my second laptop with runs Vista OS.
For less than $100 you have a system that will bring in the weaker signals.

We went to walmart and bought the Wireless-N USP Network Adapter and brought in signals from as far as a block away to our laptops. We use the long extention adapter with it and just stick it out a window or up in a window of the rv and it works great.

We use a Super USB antenna from C Crane. It really improves reception.

Easy to use and setup. I use an AirLink AWLL3055. It is a WiFi USB adapter on a cable with the receiver/antenna on the end. It has a 10db gain and can pick up a signal from a long way off.
AirLink AWLL3055
Less than $50, works great. You can aim the antenna, works from inside.

I use this antenna which works great. Small and compact with a 15' USB cable.
Super USB W-Fi $100

This antenna is directional and should have a better range.
Wi-Fire $80 Directional

See the descriptions for OS support but basically windows and mac.
