If you were like me and were stoooopid enough to install Microsoft's latest "automatic" updates, you've probably noticed a few problems. I posted a different thread about issues with Quick Books, and have noticed another new issue.

When I logged in here using Firefox, all those nasty ads were there! Even though I had the ad-ons to block ads and haven't seen them in months, I had to reinstall the ad-ones. Now they're gone again!

If anyone else is having problems with Microsoft's latest round of stupidity foisted upon us, please list the problem here and how you solved it!

Thanks!

Julie

We use the automatic updates so if the computer is on it will restart so they need to be scheduled at a time you will not have any business software running.

I never had any problems with Microsoft Automatic Updates in XP or Vista. The most stupid thing to do is to not keep up with the updates.

I have a home/business network of four computers (on 24/7) that are all configured for automatic updates and have NEVER had the problem(s) you are blaming on MS. I use both IE and Firefox with NO problems. MS has faults, but being STUPID is not one of them. JMHO

The last update appears to have made my system (XP) operate faster ,at least it seems so to me. But I'm not running Quick Books , which is where your problem seems to be. Wish I had better advise to give on a fix for you.

No, no, I fixed the Quick Books problem. It seems to have caused other problems, as well, like messing with Firefox. MS Word wouldn't open at first, either . . . Seems it's not just Quick Books that's having problems.

Oh, and I never had any problems with them before, either . . .

The basic problem is this: Not every computer is like every other computer. This can be either or both, software or hardware.
All yes all OS have problem sometimes when an update is available. MS has issued many updates and if you look back, only select uses will have a problem, such as Mrs Mik this time with quickbooks and with firefox.
Just as a for instance, look at some of the Linux OS's forum and you will see that something that worked before doesn't work with the new update. Apple has had problems in the past and will also have some in the future.
So who should fix this? You might ask yourself what is Quickbooks doing that a security update (or whatever) causes it not to work? You might ask what is the popup blocker doing that is causing the problem?
Myself, if I had a Mission Critical application, I wouldn't install any type of update without backing up my entire system. I would also suggest that before you do any update that you check with your software vendor to see if they have had any problems with an update before you apply one. By the way, software vendor updates don't always work on every computer either.

Chris, my firefox ad-on to block ads was lost. My back-up program would not open, MS word would not open, Quick Books Point of Sale and Quick Books itself would not open, I had other various error messages that I didn't keep track of, but never had before . . .

I think that's it, but I haven't tried to open all the programs on the computer . . .

Ya know . . . I have been on this forum for a LONG time, and for some reason I really wasn't ready to put on my flame suit for a post such as this. I was actually trying to HELP other folks. I guess that got lost in translation.

I'm NOT the only one having problems . . . This is a HUGE issue for Quick Books users. I actually thought some folks here might be happy to hear of these issues and my post would help them to AVOID the problems I had. How stupid of me.

I didn't ask for anyone to tell me what I did wrong. I already know that. Hindsight IS 20/20, you know.

I was actually trying to help others learn from my mistakes and highlight other problems that this most recent update may be causing. How stupid of me to think that the post would be taken in the way it was intended.

Thanks.
