We will be heading to Florida and we are located in between 65 and 75. Wondering if anyone has traveled both South and which would be better pulling a trailer. We are accustomed to traveling down 75. Thanks! Google maps sends us down 65 and appears to be a little shorter, however, my main concern is the difference in the mountains.

We take I-65 to 231 to I-10 to I-75 when we go to Fort Myers, Fl. It is about 100 miles longer but alot less traffic. There are less hills going thru Alabama besides you don't have to go thru Atlanta.

If you do decide to take I-65, make sure you take I-85 E at Mongtomery, Al to exit 9 south to 231. Less traffic.

A buddy who lives in Linton, IN and his dad convinced me to take this route last year when we went to Disney. There's a nice campground for an overnight stay near Troy, AL just off US 231, Deer Run. They told me about the campground, too.Deer Run

ALL Interstate highways have the same restrictions for mountains. 06% grade continuous is the grade limit. It is rare for any of them to have sharp curves and they all have 4 lanes minimum. With no altitude to be concerned with in the Eastern US you could safely take either route or choose the one in the best condition or with the fewest traffic problems. Good luck / skip

I think I-65 is the better route. You miss the long climb near Jellico TN and you miss the Atlanta free for all.

We pull our 31' FW to Gulf Shores every year via I-65--no mountains, just a few big hills. We avoid I-75, way too much traffic.

I have went both ways in the past 4 months, gas was alot cheaper in Alabama and not the low power ethanol mix found in other states,Tennessee was the worst for rest stops, and gas prices were good and in other spots the highest of my trips. Some road projects in Kentucky were real road hazards as well as one in south Georgia, one or two spots in Alabama weren't much fun either. Plan your trip ,--------(check each states DOT website)-------,hit major metro areas after 9pm and your OK either way.

We are heading to Orlando and just wanted a change of pace from our usual route down I-75. We are staying south of Huntsville on our way and upon plugging it into Mapquest, discovered that Mapquest suggested I-65 S from Huntsville and picking up 280 southeast of Birmingham and taking it all the way to Tifton, GA where we would pick up I-75 S and take it on to Orlando. We usually love getting off the beaten path on State Roads, however, we do not know anything about 280 in Alabama. It turns into 520 in GA. Thanks for any input. We love to see the country and feel that it doesn't always have to be from the interstate when we travel.

I agree with the I-65 route. 231 so thru Dothan, AL to I-10.
another great park is Ozark Travel park on 231 in Ozark, AL.
