is it recommended to leave the release latch in the roll down position or change it to the roll up position after extending and locking everything down?

I leave mine in the roll down position, never really thought about it. but it would seem to make sense, keeps it from being able to roll up unexpectedly.

If you move it to the roll up position and your tie downs fail, it will probably roll up on its own at an uncontrolled rate and may take the tie downs with it and do some unexpected damage to the trialer, anyone standing near by, a neighbor, itself or any or all of the above.

If you have ever seen an awning roll up without being controlled with the strap you would understand. Had a nieghbors strap break while rolling up his last year and the force opened his inside cabinets knocking out some dishes. Sounded like an artillery blast.

The ratcheting you hear as you roll it out is part of the mechanism that holds it out. tYou can certainly flip it anytime you want but the awning will be trying to retract all the time....Brian

Leave it in the roll down position, this is the locking mechanism. The same when you roll it up, leave it in the roll up position as it is also locked in that position.
