Had the TT powered up today for appliance testing and got out my brand new Surge Guard Model 34730. When I hooked it up and put AC Power to it, it hums annoyingly like a big transformer. Reminds me of a Mercury Vapor light on a pole or ceiling.
Anyone using one of these have the same results? Sounds like Transformer Hum, but could be something touching the inside of the plastic case and resonating the hum through the plastic box making it louder than it is supposed to be. Just want to make sure it is normal with these and hoping I didn't get a bad one.

It depends on how and where you mount it. It hums, and the sound may be amplified by something. I've had them in my last three rigs and never had a problem. The main noise I hear in this rig is a loud clunk when it turns on power, but that is mostly because of where I have it mounted.

i have one and well when i first plugged it in and it started to flow power - it hummed --- a little hum is normal from what i understand --- it isn't annoying or anything --- i have tapped it gently (with fingers only) and a bit of the hum disapated -- you may wish to give this a try.
otherwise i would contact surge guard and see what they have to say --- oh, it should never be resting on its back (so i have been told).
good luck

The one I have is the 30A Portable, so it hangs by the plug from the outlet box on the post. It's definitely coming from the inside, vibrating the plastic case. Did try tapping on the sides, no change, so guessing a wire or the circuit board is against the side of the case causing it. Have to see if I can open it up, or if it's a sealed unit contact SurgeGuard.
Yep it's definitely weather sealed. Got the Star Screws out but it is sealed for weatherproofing. Will just see how it does after a little use on my upcoming campout. If it gets worse will call them, if not I can live with it.

Is this the only power source you have tried with the unit? It is possible the power source was out of specs? Mine will vibrate and sounds like a relay trying to connect if the power is out of limits. My unit has a keyed override, did you try the override?
Just a few things to try.
