What does it take in California for your tent trailer to be a tax deductible write-off as a 2nd home? I've heard several things and thought I'd ask here. I've heard it just has to have some type of cooking area and a toilet? But can they be portable or have to be fixed?

Tomorrow we go looking at some trailers, getting one step closer to owning one!

thye must be fully self contained,

which means the stove and the toilet must fixed. The toilet must have a holding tank, and not be a porti-pottie.

sorry

So I'm out SIOL or is there any small tent trailers that have black water storage? Or how can I make this work?

Nevermind, LOL, I see the Westlake and the Jayco 1206 has BW storage. That's the model I've been leaning towards.

My Aliner has a cassette toilet which qualifies. I also have a shower. I thought either a shower or a bath was also required to qualify as a second home. This was the first year I was able to take the second home interest deduction on my Aliner. It's not a lot of savings, but every little bit helps.

Every little bit helps and if I get a 20 year loan most of it will be a write-off for a while, or until I sell it. I was told you need a toilet and cooking area to be a tax deduction. I'll just find one that does have a toilet with BW storage.

Just as an FYI ALL RV toilets of any type including portapotties have black water storage. Other wise it would be like the old train toilets with the sign "do not flush when train is in the station" as all there was was an open pipe leading to the train tracks.
