I didn't look at the OR too closely, but was very interested in the cable slide-out system. What I saw was a horizontal steel cable rubbing against the SO rubber seal. Will not take too many cycles to wear a nice groove in the seal. Not sure how good this "outside the box" idea will hold up. But then maybe there is something I missed. The unit I looked at had a curb SO right next to the entry door, so the groove in the seal will be very hard to ignore.

Please folks read the posting carefully. Everybody is mixing up facts, thoughts and opinions of 2 very different units. Open Range and Open Road are two very different units in different price ranges built by two different companies. As to the OP your endorsement of the Open Range product is bordering on commercial advertising for your SIL something the moderator may not accept.

I too am interested in the cable system for the slider, and it is on the Open Range, at least according to the dealer I visited 2 weeks ago and he sells them. I couldn't tell you if a cable system was good or bad, but the dealer made a point out of it, stating that he wasn't sure how it would hold up over time. Time will tell I guess. I will say that the fit/finish and quality seemed to be as good as anything else in the class.

Want to know how well the cable slide system holds up? Go to Keystone rv camping group and read about them. Doesn't seem Keystone has done good with them. Will the O.R. do any better? Time will tell.

BJ lost all credibility when he revealed that his son-in-law was involved with Open Range. I'm not saying he is right or wrong but for sure he is biased.

Its more than the son in law working there, its him to.

BJ wrote in another post:

There is a new fifth-wheel that is being manufactured in Shipshewana, Inddiana It is called "Open Range" and is creating quite a stir in the RV community.

I do the tours for this company and would enjoy having you visit with us. We are located North of Shipshewana on Road 5. Look for our sign. Our tours are on Tuesday and Wednesday at 2:00 pm Indiana time.
If that day is not convenient, please give me a call at 594-354-2044 and we will make special arrangements for you to see how the fifth wheel is made. My name is Bryan aka Santa Claus. Either name is ok by me.

I look forward to meeting you.

Had mine for 5 months, love it and can't say I have anything negitive to say about it. The slide cables have not damaged the seal yet, helps pull the slide in evenly from top and bottom without all the weight on the bottom.

These are comments our friend BJ made about us over on a dealers blog. It really burns my butt when people misconstrue truth for their own benefit. I don't think I should post the dealers weblink into the site. PM if you want it.

"Thank you for a most interesting description of Randy’s new fifth-wheel. As you would guess, I have already visited the factory and I find everything you say to be true.

There have been some negative things said in the RV.NET Forum by people who have no idea what they are talking about and are only going on hearsay. You folks should know as you see many RVs every day and sell many excellent brands.

Thanks again for setting folks straight on what the Open Range really is.

Have a good season!

Regardless of how good his SIL trailers may or may not be his credibility and integrity is shot.

Virtually everyone on here believes they have the best of the best no matter how good or bad it is but are the first to bash someone else that believes in what you dont own. I'm going to go look and possibly buy an Open Range just because the know it alls cant see past their own noses.

It occurs to me that it is just plain stupid to start a thread telling how good a product is and then ADMIT that you are financially involved with the product.
