I am a long time picture trail user. From long before they started charging.
I started a Webshots account a few months ago and all my new photos have been going there. So far I like Webshots.

Been using Webshots for over 6 years and have almost 100,000 hits. Has really worked well for me. Has a limit of 8200 photos.

They are all very similar. I use several of them, depending on what I am doing. Shuterfly has the best Christmas card templates, AOL Pictures has the best print service (for us, since we have a Walgreens nearby), Photobucket is the easiest for linking pictures to online blogs & sites, etc.). I have really only been disappointed with one service, and that was Flickr. Despite the rave reviews, I found it cumbersome to use for both me and for people I was trying to share pictures with.

Well, you can do any of many "free" sites and live with their restrictions and advertising.
Or you can learn to handle a hosting server and site coding software and do pretty much what you please. Nowadays we're not exactly talking a lot of money.

I like Picasa it has all the features I need, no ads or active ads, plenty of storage space for the average person and it allows comments. I will be adding more photos to mine in a few minutes. From the mac I have a single mouse click to upload from iPhoto or from Aperture (I use both) to Picasa.
