I have found that it's much cheaper to get in the motorhome and travel the United States than it is to stay home..We live too close to a casino when we're home so it's cheaper for us to travel..

Not sure how you get to $1200 in fuel costs. Key west to Gainesville is roughly 500 miles. If you get 7 mpg at $4.00 per gallon that's about $290 each way or less than 1/2 what you figured.
If gas drops or increases .50 per gallon you will save/spend $75 . I guess I'd have to think what the trip and enjoyment is worth.

We'll keep pullin', but we'll be pullin' at 55 mph, not 70.....and we'll be looking to stay at more county/state parks and boondocking as opposed to fhu parks. Every little bit counts, I guess. We are already seeing the demise of some of the fhu parks. This may be normal attrition....just more noticeable now, but I know several of my favorite rv parks have converted to high end resort condos, etc.

We considered canceling our trip to montana because of the high price of fuel. I think we will be able to go. We are going to try and save money other ways. First of all we are useing our cr-v as our commute vechical. This saves us not only fuel cost but maintance since it has 100k extended warenty and free oil changes for life. We also only eat out on special ocasions. My mother in law and father in law are going also to help split fuel cost. We are going to delay upgradeing our tow vechical and trailer for longer than we thought.
If u can make scarifices that ofset fuel cost it might still be possible to go on camping trips.
We made camping our number one and proabley one of the few lesure activity that cost money.
Tc happy camping

When I do the math, I come up with about $525 for travel. An entire tank of fuel to run the gen? That does not seem to add up either.
You might as well stop drag racing too. I don't need to tell you how expensive racing is.

Like Bearnkat, we still plan on our long trip this year, but may be scaling back other plans. Actually, the scaling back was as much due to weather as it was to the cost of fuel; we had thought of going to MO & AR for a camping trip this spring, but between our snow & their floods, decided against it.

We do not travel as far for weekend trips as we did when we had a PUP getting 20 MPG and gas was $1.50 per gallon as we do now with gas well over $3.00 and we are getting 9 MPG. Camping fees used to be the biggest expense for a weekend. Now when we go to the closest State Park (120 miles round trip) gas is the biggest expense; however, we are still going at least once a month. We will also still take camping vacations, but maybe not as far away as in the past.

In my case, my TV is my everyday driver also. I am spending about $100.00 more this year per month for fuel than last year. That extra per mt. money means less to save for trips. (esp. short stays). Still can't justify a more economical daily driver though. More ins., maintenance, taxes, ect. for a 3rd vehicle.

I didn't say I couldn't afford it, I said I couldn't justify it. Another thread said 430% inflation in fuel prices in four years....that's a lot more than $137.
My genny burns maybe 3/4 gallon per hour. 4 days is 100 hours, close to a full tank of fuel. (It's normally hot there and like most big DP's we run the gen pretty much all day and night).
I could have it sit and rent it out for $1000 a month but what's the point...
