Hi. We've just purchased our first 5th Wheel. In fact we have yet to get our hitch installed so we can actually go and pick it up. So. That being said be kind to the dummy. We have so many questions it's hard to know where to begin. We got a 30 ft. Nu-Wa Hitchhiker. We're so excited and have so many plans and dreams. For now we're restricted to weekend camping but our ultimate goal is snowbirds (down the line a ways). I've subscribed to Trailer Life and have joined a couple different Camp Clubs for camping discounts, etc. We're exploring the possibility of Work Kamping, anybody out there done that? How's that working out? Do you get enough free time to explore the area? Most of the opportunities we've seen in the magazine/website are for an entire season and I'm not sure we want to start out committed that long but we have time to figure that out. I've read most of the forums and am wondering with just the tv antenna do we need a satallite dish or will the antenna be enough? We love renting DVD movies, how do you do that when you're on the road with no permanent local address? We're going bio-diesel (DSE). Anybody doing that? What is your thoughts on how well it works? Well, I'll be coming back here often so just poke me if I'm getting to be a pain. And thank you in advance for your patience. We'll post our pictures as soon as we pick up the unit..after we've wiped the smiles off our faces.

Howdy, and welcome! What trailer and truck did you decide on? Don't even hesitate to ask questions here, no one seems to mind and some seem to thrive on answering your questions!

Take it slow, is this your first ever RV? Have you ever towed before? You did pick a great way to start, a 5er is by far a great decision for what you are planning to use it for! I would hesitate to use bio-diesel at first, especially in a new truck. And it should not be bought from a "home made" moonshine type operation, but rather a approved distribution system. And make sure to post pics of your rig!

And again, make yourself at home here!

The tv antenna will work all the way from great to not at all depending on where you happen to be. Some places there's just no tv to be had without satellite. RVing is a great thing to do and most RVers seem willing to help and have a conversation without regard to what type of RV you have. We've never seen any snobbishness while RVing.

Welcome, antenna should work on the tv in most places (pretty much local stations only) don't forget you either need a digital tv or a converter box so when Feb. 2009 comes around you'll be all set (every things going Digital then).

I've tried bio-diesel and won't use it again, I've got friends that burn nothing else. I didn't notice a difference in power but sure noticed a difference in mpgs, also the exhaust seemed to smell worse than usual. I agree with the other posts about the antenna.

With respect to renting movies/dvds. you need to check out the Redbox (www.redbox.com) dvd rental program located at most all McDonalds, Walmart and Sams Clubs. They are kiosks that dispense new releaes dvds for $1.00 per day. The beauty of the deal is you can return then at any redbox location.

We travel frequently from our home in SW Mo to my inlaws in Wisconson. On the way out of town, we stop by our local Mcdonalds and get a few movies. Along the way when the kids are done with the original set of movies we return them at any mcdonalds along the way and restock. great traveling companion.

Glad to have you aboard. Asking questions is the name of the game. When I came on in 2003 I had no idea what I was doing. Most of the advice was excellent some you just have to ignore. I know I really appreciated those that would take time and write out detailed answers to my questions. Many of those answers are used today in my camping and some of those answers I pass on down the line to newcomers. It's good we can learn from each other. NUWa is a great trailer. I would probably have one but the dealer that's 50 miles away just is not who we are comfortable with. Good dealers make all the difference in the world.
We've used the regular antenna just a few times. Most of the time it just doesn't work. I put a King Dome on the roof and use Dish Network. That way we get all the news. The dome makes it very easy to fine the satellite.

Hope you learn and enjoy the forum.

Biodiesel will give you less mpg (about 2-3) although it really cleans out your fuel system so that the next full tank of regular diesel you will notice up to a couple mpg's higher, than normal for a couple of tanks or so.

Visit the Workamping forum (here).
Also, visit Escapees (various) forums - lots of fulltimers, etc.

Think you want to bring along a sat TV system - if you have sat at home,
bring your box & a portable dish.

DVD rentals are no problem. Depending on where you travel - even some
Mickey D's (McDonalds) will have DVD rental Kiosks. Credit Card takes care of everything.

Have fun . . .now get busy! You've got lots of reading to do, LOL!
