We're also thinking Myrtle Beach next summer but can't decide between Ocean Lakes and Myrtle Beach Travel Park. Both are close to the beach, have pools, and allow pets (our 3 must have's)....help!

IMHO, Myrtle Beach Travel Park is the better choice.

If you want all the amenities and small sites you can go to pirateland, ocean lakes or MBTP, If you want nice, inexpensive large sites plenty of full hook ups I highly recommend Myrtle Beach State park. If you want a little down the road Huntington Beach State park is vey nice as well. I have stayed at Ocean lakes and Myrtle Beach State park in the last year and unless you need a pool stay at the State Park. Hunnington Beach is not close to all the MB activities but is you like the beach the way is was meant to be with no high rises and plenty of sand dunes that is where you will find it. Still have a nice campground but with a rustic feel. MBTP is very nice. I like where it is located in the middle of Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach.

We usually go to pirate land. Why it is the one we can usually get a reservation for. The sites are fairly close, but I think they were larger than the site I had at Lakewood.

MBTP is our favorite. We have also stayed at Ocean Lakes and Pirate Land. We have not tried the state parks yet, but hope to some time.
Ocean Lakes is our least favorite, but search for "Ocean Lakes" here and you will see that many, many people name it as their favorite.
I hope you enjoy your time at the MBTP, just be sure to visit the other campgrounds while your there. I believe they will let you drive through to 'scout' it for your next visit.
You may find that one of the others will be your favorite.

My site was mostly sand/dirt. It was a great site, however, it did rain for several days which made our site extremely soggy. In fact, it was almost impossible to get out our door without getting our feet wet. The further back you are from the water, the more grassy the sites. I think you would also be happy at the lake sites, and as I said previously, there are those new pull thru's which are on concrete slabs. Hope this helps. P.S. Not sure why you could not get thru to me directly. I am going to check that out now.

Thank you very much. Because of all of the great reviews for ALL of the Myrtle Beach campgrounds I think we are going to try them all out at least once !!
