I modified a 5k rated alum tripod for pulling injured workers out of manholes and it's like being hitched to the Rock of Gibraltar! Don't get the one with the vertical screw and pin cup at the top - you'd be better off with 3- 2x4s and a piece of chain! I actually thought of building one with wood til I found the one I have now. It wouldn't win any beauty contest but it would work fine. Craig

I have a tripod....used 5 times, yes it is better than nothing...and great with rotochocks...installed the PlugItRights, sold as a rock. Only very slight movement...and when i say slight I mean you have to almost be looking for it to move if someone walks. Front and back movement is 99% gone, left and right movement is 95% gone.

My new tripod is for sale for anyone in the DFW area.

We used to use the tripod whenever we went out, but this year we are going to try it without once or twice. If it doesn't move around much then we will go without. If we get too much movement, we will go back to setting up the tripod again.

Mine has the vertical screw and pin cup at the top, and it works great.

I installed JTs on mine. Don't use or need the tripod anymore. One less thing to carry around that I don't need.

I thought about the tripod but I didn't like having one more thing to worry about carrying around and setting up. Read alot of posts and the turning point was reading about those that had them and went to the JT strongarms and how happy they were. I'm very pleased with the steadiness the JT's put into my 5er.

I like the tripod better for a couple reasons-1st, i got it free for my birthday, but they are about 1/3 the price for a nice one, 2nd-much lighter, especially the aluminum one like i have, 3rd-gives something to keep the kids(or me) from headbanging that pinbox. I have no doubt jt's work, but im sure its not 3x better. the tripod makes mine steady as a rock, plus i dont have to drill the frame to put them on. just my opinion, but it seems to me to not be worth it.

I have both and I can tell you that you are right, the JT's and PIR's are not 3X better...more like 20X better.

Great that is use what you want...use what you like.

We have a 30' and a tri-pod. It seems to help, but may be different with trailers with different layouts.

Tripod helps a lot on ours. You do need to crank on it a bit.
Also helps prevent injury from running into the pinbox.
