Deep down I think I wanted another spring project on the new TT....
I bought a 2000 Jayco Qwest 25' TT from the auctions for a smokin deal, seems to have seen very little use. This weekend I was nearing the end of my spring checklist, finished lubing the axles and cleaning/adjusting brakes, tested the LP system for leaks, and was de-winterizing. I washed out all the antifreeze and was in the process of filling up FW tank after adding bleach solution. Went inside for a sandwich and all hell broke loose. The pics are after the moment of panic, and it's all jacked back into place.
Really stressed my plumbing lines but the only casualty so far was the vent tube which tore a hole and pulled loose, venting several gallons into trailer while I obliviously ate my lunch. I didn't like the setup when I first crawled under there. the entire bracketing system is held on with wood screws. I shudder to think of this happening on the highway, there are alot of very secure connections holding the rest of the plumbing onto the tank.
So much for headin out next weekend I guess my only option is to fabricate new brackets that run from either side of the frame, and all 3 tanks would require this I would think. Anyone ever experienced this? Any suggestions? TIA
I would put 2" angle aluminum along both sides of the tank, between the tank straps and the tank, so that you get batter distribution of the weight from the straps to the length of the tank.
Remember that a 50 gallon tank will be a little over 400 pounds when full!
If you need any tank fittings, repair kit, or new tank, check out this site.
Great advice, Thank you! Unistrut looks to be my answer, I already sent an email to the closest distributor. several lengths of that combined with the aluminum angle and straps will cure this problem. With all that support I could likely install a bigger tank.... I remember seeing pics on the mod thread of a moderators rig with what was likely Unistrut holding his blu boy. I like this idea. Any problems with good quality self tapping screws and punchin' holes in the frame? I don't have any handy access to a welder.
