Hello all
I took a voltage check on outlets in my Rv and here is what I got.
130-135 No Load.
125-130 With one air on.
150 When I kick the air off.
Is this normal and /or acceptable ?
Should I be concerned? If so what should I do ?
Also how can I check to see if my generator is idleing too high?

NO, the high of 150 is NOT acceptable. The other voltages are right at spec for your model. The governor is what regulates the run speed (1800 RPM's). The idle adjustment on your model does NOT regulate the running RPM speed or the voltage. If you are using a quality Volt meter, (not a plug in needle type) then you need the unit checked out by a qualified Onan tech. That high (150) volatge can damage your other appliances. Doug

Post the complete model number and we can help much more. It sounds like a speed problem but it could be a blown diode in an early spec, or a shorted regulator in a later spec. There is also the possibility of a rotor or stator problem.
The model and spec number will tell the tale.

Not sure exactly what you need so here goes.
6.5 NHE-1R/26100C

PF=1.
AMPS=54.2
HZ=60
RPM=1800
BAT 12
If this is not complete let me know and I will look some more.
I maybe should also clearify the 150v spike only lasts for 2-3 seconds
then its back to 130-135v.

Your Sept 87 unit seems to have a governor problem. It could be attributed to one or more problems.
1. Basic governor setting is too high.
2. Too much sensitivity in the governor linkage.
3. Binding governor rod that won't allow the governor to bring the unit back to the on-speed setting.
4. Very dirty/varnished oil that is gumming up the governor dish and ball assembly mounted on the front of the camshaft.
5. Maladjusted engine idle speed setting.
To check the speed, get a multimeter that has a Hz function on it and connect it between generator ground and one of the circuit breaker outputs. At no load the meter should read 61.5 +- .5, at full load it should read 58.5 +- .5 Hz.
To adjust the speed setting loosen and adjust on the two (3/8" wrench) lock nuts and threaded shaft inside the square hole in the black top cover on the engine. Use WD40 on the shaft and nuts as this is an old unit and it may be rusty.
The voltage adjusting system was usually set slightly low at the factory due to a possible overspeed voltage problem. Do NOT adjust the transformer taps unless you have the Service/Overhaul Manual and fully understand it.
