I don't know how many people take advantage of state park camping, but my family loves to frequent the closer parks here in central Pennsylvania. A couple years ago and last year, the nightly rate for a modern camp site (has power and showers available) was $17 a night on weekends. For our family to camp, two nights was $34. I thought that the price was affordable for everyone who budgeted. I had gotten an email from DCNR that pricing was going to increase and I believe that the email stated that the prices would not be significant. I just got back from our maiden voyage this year (which I booked in January and paid the $34) and my daughter wanted to go next weekend so I logged on and to my surprise, when I went to check out, the balance due was $48. I am appalled that the "insignificant" price increase went up $7 a night. I am just making it be known if you didn't already and I feel that the state is going to put a hurting on a lot of people who go camping in state parks because they could afford to have family fun for a weekend. I do not know what other states charge and maybe I should be fortunate that we only have to pay that rate, but I feel that if you only have power to a site with no water except fill stations, that the state will be pricing themselves out of the camping picture and people will be looking for private places that offer full hook-ups for only an "insignificant" amount more.

Almost all the States have or are going up. Here in Michigan they are from $15 for State Forest no hook ups to in a State Park $24 with electric to $38 with full hook ups but you still have reservation fees, park entry fees which can drive the price up to almost $100 for a weekend. There's a lot of real nice private campgrounds for less than that for a weekend that have better power and facilities.

Typical State Parks in Florida range from $16-$30 depending on the popularity of the park. The one exception is the overpriced($38)state park RV resort called Topsail Hill that everyone drools over here.

USCGfamily, you will not have to pay the difference. I already have reservations for Bald Eagle State Park over the weekend of May 16 and only paid $34. I wish I had known when the prices changed and I would have made all my reservations before then.

I guess next years trip to see the Elk while staying at Parker Dam State park will be a little more costly. Still alot better then what we pay on most trips during the year.

As a former resident of the Keystone, the campers foot the bill for most everything. There is no admission to the parks. Picnicing is FREE. Lake swimming is FREE. All day use areas always have trash strewn about, but the campgrounds usually look good late Sunday afternoons, but the freebies get charged nothing for clean-up. Then are the pet charges still in effect in the campgrounds? Again no charge in the freebie areas. IMHO!
