Let me guess: You're using your laptop the way it came configured from Gateway, right? If so, you're fighting a battle you can't win.

What you need to do is have someone who knows what they're doing remove all the unneeded startup programs (of which there are many), uninstall all the******programs (McAfee, Norton, etc.), turn off UAC, install and start using Firefox instead of IE7, etc. Then and only then will you get good service from your new laptop.

I use IE8 beta and it's much more advanced than Firefox 3.0 beta.

Joe, I tried IE8 and had big problems with the Beta A version. I had to use a restore point to get rid of it as there are NO provisions to uninstall. I usually run the Beta versions, but not this time.

I stil use IE6, works just fine. 30 processes running. A good hosts file. Only one toolbar installed. No malware software running, just F-Protect anti virus. Only shutdown/startups are for MS updates.

I have one PC in the house running IE7 Everything else is running IE6. I keep meaning to convert the one back to IE6 if I can find an easy way. Not a lot of problems with 7 crashing but I just don't like it.

Firefox, IE6 as a backup someday, so far not needed.
Or, it could be your DSL/Cable or other settings.
