We have an Winnebago Aspect 26A and are thinking about purchasing a tow bar for our Chevy HHR. I was looking on line and seen a Falcon 2 roadmaster hookup. Is this a good setup for the HHR? What type of brake controller should I consider. Would the Prodigy brake controller work well enough. Thank you in advance for any information and insight you have.

Rich,
There is a wide assortment of towbars, base plates and braking systems to pick and choose from. You are bound to get an equally wide variation of recommendations and opinions of every imaginable combination.
I would encourage that you take a look at the Ready Brute towbar with the built in supplemental braking system. It is a little more expensive than many towbars, but with it you do not have to buy or mess with any type of a seperate braking mechanism.
It costs about $820. and the installation of it and any typical base plate will run you about $400. We got the blue ox base plate and it was about $350.
Just another one to look at.
We really do like ours.

I've had a Falcon 2 5000# set up for 15 months. No problems, it's easy to set up or take down. Get a swing away on you hitch. As far as for a HHR no idea what that is.

I have a Damon Intruder Class A 2001 and have a 2007 HHR that i tow. i love the aluminum Road Master tow bar. I purchased the tow bar and base plate at a resonable amount on ebay. I had the Hitch House in Sarasota Florida put it on and wire up the toad.

The base plate does not protrude. The only way you can tell it is towed is get down and look for the hookup for the lights and emergency break away switch.

i also purchased a used Brake Buddy from ebay and it is not really much to install. Sits on the floor of the toad and connects to the brake pedal

Camping World also seels this type of brake system under their own brand name, but i wanted to buy used first to see if i liked it. And I do.

There are lots of towbars on the market that will do a good job. We bought the Roadmaster Sterling for a couple reasons. First it's a little lighter than most and is easier to mount and dismount from the coach if you want to clean it or store it seperatly. Secondly all the safety cables and wires run through built in channels. When you disconnect the toad everything stays neatly with the towbar. Also there's little chance that anything will drag on the ground while towing.

The brake controller you mentioned is meant for electric trailer brakes. It can't be used to activate the hydraulic brakes on your toad. We use a Roadmaster 9000 braking system for our 04 Jeep Wrangler. We chose it because the only thing in the toad is the air cylinder that operates the brake pedal. The upside is that it takes up very little room and is easy to install and remove when you want to drive the toad. Also it provides proportional braking, meaning the brakes in the toad are applied at the same rate as those on the coach.

The downside is that the initial installation on the coach takes up some storage compartment room and is time consuming. We've had our system for 4 years and used it to tow our Jeep Wrangler over 30,000 miles. In all that time and all those miles we've never had a problem.
