Several reasons.
1) The inside of my bumper is not painted, so subject to rusting.
2) My hose fittings will not fit in the bumper.
3) My bumper is less than 7 ft wide, making it hard to fit in a 20 ft hose.
4) Concern about getting holes in the hose from sliding it in and out of a rough bumper.

The mod I did with the PVC storage tube is the best mod I've done yet!!! Cleaner, easier, and right by my dump valves...

I used a vented front cap for the tube to help with airflow.

I use my bumper for my clothesline, and my brother in law made this up for me

I recall reading on here some time ago...about somebody managing to put pvc INSIDE the bumper to help protect the hoses...anybody else remember that?
I got a length of 4" thin wall sewer pipe and ripped it length wise then cut to length, then overlap one end over the other and slid it into the bumper. Works well.

I store mine in a black corrugated PVC pipe on top of the bumper. I have heard stories of the pinholes but the main reason why I moved mine was that the rust was staining the outside of the hose brown. Not the color you want to see on your sewer hose regardless how clean you keep the inside. I was afraid people were talking.

I use a piece of plastic rain gutter inside of my bumper. It holds 20 feet of hose with no problems. My fittings are in a "tote" stored in a compartment.

Painted the inside of the bumper after I got the rig and discovered that the bumper interior was subject to rusting. Works fine, last long time.

Used the bumper on the last three rigs (including my present one). Never had pin holes, never had problems....works like a charm. Why change a good thing.

Same here. I do remove the hose when I get home to let the bumper interior dry out. No problems with my hose in use for several years.

I cut a piece of vinyl siding the length of the bumper and the right width. It lays on the bottom. Now the hose just slides in and out, no snags. My fittings are a good fit, but barely.
