We are now at a campground at Crystal Beach,Tx. and heading out tomorrow. We'd like to stay in the San Antonio area and would appreciate input from those that have stayed in the area. Thanks!

Can't comment on a campground in San Antonio, but do find some good Mexican food, best I ever had. And hey say Hi to Crystal Beach for me. I used to live just up the road in Port Bolivar!

Just up the road a piece (less than 1/2 hour) is New Braunfels. There are many nice parks on River Road that runs from New Braunfels up to the Canyon Lake dam for about 17 miles right along the Guadalupe River. Kinda cute that they named a road that runs along a river as River Road, huh!! We've stayed at Camp Heuco Springs (New Braunfels end of the road) and the Lazy L&L (the Canyon Lake end of the road) and would stay in both again with a bit of a nod towards Camp Heuco Springs. Nothing like having a running river to sing you to sleep at night.

Procrastinate now . . . don't wait.

We've stayed at Traveler's World a couple of times. It's not as fancy as some, but it's very clean with helpful and friendly staff. It sits on the bus route to downtown and is only a couple of miles from the missions. We plan on going back next winter for a longer stay.

Never been there before, but we are going to be at Alamo Fiesta Apr 21-25. Heard some good reviews about it.

If staying through the weekend in the San Antonio area may I suggest the Jellystone Park Hillcountry Resort close to Canyon Lake on the otherside of New Braunfels. Every Friday and Saturday a Branson style chuckwagon supper and dinner show is offered up that is simply fantastic. It is put on by the English Brothers and the show is called the Canyon Trail Chuckwagon supper and Cowboy Music Show. Great food, clean fun, and some good ole cowboy humor...Heck the performers serve you dinner then sing for ya...

Depending on your budget.... Admiralty and Blazing Star are two of the best in town.

But they charge for it.

On Gemble rd are three that are right on the bus line, stops at your front door and very close to the Alamo and Riverwalk. KOA,DIXIE and one next to it. They charge 26.00 per night and are good places to stay. Travelers World has the same but aare in a slightly worse neighborhood, course if you stay in the park , you would not have a problem

So , it depends on what you want to spend.
