I had the same problem, actually still do when I bring 10 rods....

I used one of these
http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_15992?cm_mmc=froogle-_-100-11-7-_--1-_-38-542-956-00&hvarAID=46KY&mr:trackingCode=E8D6124C-4B0A-DD11-AA92-001422107090&mreferralID=NA

to store 4 rods on the front compartment of the 5thwheel., but had to angle them for the longer rods. The one nearest the rod tips is the twist-lock one, and I just screwed it to one of the aluminum floor supports. The back one I had to make standoffs as long as the floor beams are tall, and the back one is the hole piece. I open 2 of the 3 compartment doors, one on the butt end, and the front to lift and turn the locks after laying the rods in the compartment.

For 4 rods this works. I know my FIL always takes off his reels, so storage is much easier but I dislike threading the line through all the eyes every time I want to walk to the lake/ stream and fish. If we have a family member bring the boat I place extra rods on the bed until we get to camp, as they ride in there better than in the boat, and I usually have extar rods I don't take on the boat, like night fishing setups... but I am a tackle nut and can't use a spinning outfit for downriggers, need 3 bass casters for diffirent lures, etc.

If you take a strip of velcro and tie the rods together and lay them on the bed they travel really well.....thats what I do.

UPDATE:

Just got back from a "visit" with the fifth wheel...looks like any basement front wall storage is out of the question - I have plumbing running to close to the front and rear walls to make mounting fishing poles workable. Looks like it will be in the shower storage after all, so I got some snap-lock suction cup hooks for the shower stall walls and will be carrying the poles in there.

Seriously, you own 90K worth of trucks and a 30K trailer and your asking how to store a fishing pole while travelling. Are you for reel.....(punny, get it)

RustySocket, Yes I do own 90K worth of trucks and a 30K fifth wheel and yes I was seriously asking how people store their fishing poles. I don't want anything to damage my 30K trailer. And yes I am "for reel" - I don't ask questions jokingly and I don't give (many) funny answers.

lighten up dude this is the internet ... it was a joke.

Thanks all around guys - feel free to use or modify the idea as you wish...

And yes, those clamps are VERY aggressive!! They would have no problem holding several times the weight of any rod you would want to store... Think we got them at Menards IIRC... They were in the broom/mop area along with other types of holders...

It's usually only my daughter and I or my granddaughter and I and sometimes a friend of hers that fish - my wife doesn't care to fish that much so I only needed a few rods and 4 is usually quite sufficient...

The PVC tubing may provide a bit more protection but I think I discounted that idea because I would have needed a few more supports...

In any case, quite a few good ideas shared here for all us fisherman

We have a set of rod holders that I just screwed to the wall up high in the bedroom that holds 3 rods vertically. We also have fly rods in cases that stand in the corner under the t.v. shelf. I just used a couple of 3-m hooks stuck to the wall and a piece of twine attached to each hook. I just tie it around the tubes they stay put no problem. that way there inside and out of the way also, and no fear of something banging into them.

Les...that looks like the holder I just made for the flag pole and awning rod/tool thingy.

As for the rods, I don't like to keep them in the TT in case the urge hits to drown a worm when we aren't camping. So, I keep the rods in the fender compartments on the Avalanche.

I'm putting a set of rod holders in the rear "garage" area of my new Puma!
