I see in the camping world catalog that they have a portable satellite dish for about 145.00. Has any one had any experience with this? I am looking for something easy to use and this sounds pretty good. I don't want to have one installed on the MH.

Thanks for all the info. you can give me on this.

If you have a little mechanical ability you can make one for a lot less. I went to BEst Buy and bought the same Direct TV dish we have on our house for around $50.00. I had a scrap of plywood for a base to attach the dish to and let it sit on the ground. Run TV cable to the TV connection on the outside of the MH. All of this is put together and take apart when needed, not much time envolved to do it on site. For a weight in case of wind, filled old tube sock with rocks. Use the same weight on sewer hose when emptying holding tanks.

Here is a tale to beat.

I called my Direct tv provider and asked for an additionsl dish. They said sure and sent me one. Then I went to Wslly World and bouught the lnb for thirty bucks. I have since found two spares in the trash.

Then from Lowes I got the tripod for a tv antenna and as chunk of metsl conduit of the correct diameter and lashed all of that up.

And now for the high tech part. I saved an empty antifreeze jug and fill it at the campsite with water and hang it on the tripod for stsbility.

When we hit the road the dtv box comes out of the home bedroom and into the csmper.

Talk about a cheap skate

I made one of these with a few slight modifications.

Works pretty slick

I think you'll find that many have the CWorld or similar portable dish and many opinions on it. I have a dish on my rig but have the Cworld portable in a bay for those time when an unreasonable park owner won't let me chainsaw a tree to get a signal

There are a couple things to remember - that dish is a single LNB, therefore only 1 satellite. Alignment is always a fun exercise. There are several after-market alignment tools and meters that help.

Also think about some way to secure the unit, both due to winds and "wandering off." The first has happened to me, not the 2nd, but...

It does what it's supposed to do, and does fold up nicely for storage (though check the diameter against your bays). However, if you change campgrounds a lot you will get a lot of practice in dish alignment.

I built the three legged mount. Much easier to level and can be made stable by laying a small sand bag across the bottom tube. takes about 2 minutes to set up if with in 150 miles of home.
