Think about this. In California the building codes have provisions to deal with the risk of earthquakes.

If big one hits the midwest, do they all have the same building codes? Unreinforced masonry is a real problem. Brick buildings are not very safe. Brick should only be used as a decorative layer over the real wall.

Yep, I was awake and felt it, me and the dog . Everything started shaking around, took me about 5 seconds to realize it was an earthquake. Just as I was saying "wow!" to myself it stopped, lasted about 30 seconds from what I could tell.

We had an aftershock at 10:15, everyone here at work perked up real quick Exciting way to start a day for sure! Kids slept through it, DH says he felt is but didn't realize what it was, went right back to sleep.

After touring the New Madrid fault center 15 years ago, I purchased earthquake insurance rider on my homeowner's policy here in Central Illinois (real cheap!)

The big one is bound to come.

My wife felt the quake this am, I slept through it (probably because I'm insured against damage so I subconsciously wasn't worried).

May end up with ocean front property after all

I am in Rising Sun IN, right after the alarm went off at 530am, I felt it, thought it felt like high wind but no storms were in the forecast when I went to bed. Turned on CNN and realized what it was.
