We just got our new fifth wheel which is equipped with Sani-Flush, a black tank flushing system. During our PDI, the tech suggested that we attach a short water hose to our fresh water valve and then another short water hose to our Sani-Flush valve, then connect the two together with a Y connector. That way we could leave the hoses connected to the valves and reduce wear and tear on them. Apparently they can be expensive and difficult to replace. When we set up on a site we would just quick connect in our water hose to the bottom of the Y.

My only concern is that since the Sani-Flush valve is sharing a connection with our fresh water hose that we may get contamination into our fresh water hose. My DH feels that should not be a concern as he feels sure that the Sani-Flush system has something installed to prevent any backflow from the black tank.

Anyone familiar with this system and are my fears unfounded?

I agree. As a physician I wouldn't do it. If you are worried about the connection, keave a short hose connected to the sani-flush and connect a separate hose to it.

I sure wouldn't do it either. All that stands in the way of contamination is a little spring check valve that could get debris in it and get stuck open. We have the same setup on our Jayco and all I did was put quick connectors on both fittings so there is no wear and tear on either. Technically we should be using a different hose dedicated to the tank flush but I take a chance on that by letting water run through the hose as I'm snapping on the quick connector.

CW sells a gray hose about 15ft. long for use on your Sani-Flush.
The fact that It's gray takes the guess work about if It's the correct
hose for that job.
White=Fresh water only
Gray=Flushing holding tanks only
Green=washing the rig

I use hoses with quick connects on mine. don't understand why you need to do otherwise, and yes I use a 30 ft grey hose to supply sprayer from where it is attached to campground tap.

I use the same hose for both.

Our flush system goes from the outside connection up to a vacuum break and then down to the black tank.

Until water learns to defy gravity, I'm not worried about contamination.

well I don't think gravity is my greatest concern. variations in water pressure, water hammer effect, etc. concern me more.

Salmonella can be present in black water at billions per glass. It only takes a few to make you really sick
