The stupidest thing I ever did was forget our vacation money. I had my son mail it to me when we reached Washington. The second is when I directed my husband into a boulder. He told me to watch out for a tree limb above and I forgot to look down. The third is when my friend said watch the voltage meter(lights) go up. I think that's what it's called. The generator was on and we turned on some electrical stuff to watch the meter go up. My husband just finished with the outside and came in to relax to watch a movie and the breaker blew. He wasn't to happy because I said the generator was still on, but what I heard was another generator. One time our dog Charlie got loose and we both went after him. When we got back the other dog ate our dinner.

Hi Totendatrailer,
Unfortunately the beer didn’t make it for me but apparently it didn’t go to waste judging by the foam on my dogs face.

Markke: Thank you for posting that. I haven't laughed like that since the kids were at home. I haven't gone camping yet but I'm sure I will have my own story really soon. G.

Hi G,
No problem. I have since put a ban on the kids playing with any objects that could potentially turn me into a human projectile again.
Hopefully this will save a little time and a couple ribs.

My stupidest thing I did was, I was trying to prove to my DH that I could take our pop-up to the campground and setup by myself. Well he kept going over the details with me and I was half listening to him. So I parked the pop-up where I wanted it and was unhooking from my truck and the site sloped away from the truck. Well I forgot about choking the wheels. The trailer started to roll down the site. It seemed like time stood still. The trailer hit the parking block on the site and stopped. Once my heart started beating again, I looked around to see if anyone saw what happened, Thank God nobody did. Well when the DH showed up, he told me I did a great job setting up and that he never thought about using the parking block as a way to choke the wheels. I never did tell him what I did.

Took our new travel trailer on it's "maiden voyage" - a 350 mile trip to Valdez. Got down there just fine and set up with a minimum amount of fuss (upon reflection I shoulda figured something was wrong!).
The next morning we woke up freezing and couldn't figure out why the furnace didn't kick on.

'cause I forgot to turn on the propane! It wasn't till a neighbor in a Class A helped me figure it out. Boy did I feel like an idiot!

We love to camp with privacy & such and one of the "parks" we are a member of has a section where the sites are carved out of the bushes, trees & dirt banks. The roads go every which way and most of the sites are back in. We were returning to the same site we had previously had.

The first thing I do is forget how to get to the site so I get on the wrong road. I spot the correct road but it is a very sharp turn. I figure it shouldn't be too bad - I'll just cut through the tall grass and ease up the corner a bit. That tall grass wasn't so tall after all - it was growing on a mound of dirt. I don't recall how a sharp right turn resulted in scratching up the passenger side basement door but it did.

I extricate myself and go get turned around and headed the other direction so I can make this a gentle left turn. I get to the site and proceed to back in. All is well & good because the utilities are on the correct side. But I parked so close to the bushes to allow for maximum space for the dogs that I can't open the entry door. I proceed to reposition so I can use the door. But I can't use the awning because of the bushes. That is when I remember this site is best used as a pull in. The utilities (water & power only) may require the long hose & extension cord but at least the door opens into the open area of the site and the awning can be deployed.

Maybe the next time I'll remember that instead of driving all around, trying to take sharp corners and scraping up the basement door that the proper way to approach this site is straight on from the main road because it is in the V where the road splits in two.

My gosh! Is there enough room on this forum for all of mine? I could go on for pages! Well here are a couple highlights:

In a rush to dump tanks I jumped out of truck, opened up the campers doors and pulled the black valve. Just forgot to hook up that drain hose thingy. Luckily for me there were several other RV'ers around to share my dancing fun. (those old guys sure can move fast!)

Forgot to lower satellite dish when I hit the road one night. Those things work pretty well for trimming trees! Don't recommend it though. (it still works!)

Was in a hurry to remove camper from truck. Lifted camper way up off of truck, jumped into truck and pulled forward. Amazing how easy it was to rip all the wires out of the electrical plug!

Awning deployed in high winds. Stopped on uneven ground to remove camper to fix awning. Camper is up in air and start pulling truck out. Big gust of wind collapses one of the legs, GF is holding camper from falling over (what a gal!) Had to ram truck under falling camper! Major damage to 3 jacks and two mounting brackets and still wasn't able to fix the awning! Had to drive home with awning/parachute deployed.

Didn't notice extended branch of tree while backing up. Roof rack isn't much of a rack anymore. Rain gutter isn't much of a gutter anymore. Rubber roof cover now has a couple of extra holes, for future upgrades I keep telling myself.

Sadly this is just the beginning. I'll stop now, I can hardly see the computer through all my tears anyway.

Other than going home from camping, the worst thing I have done was back over our mailbox after our first camping trip. Not too bad. I am sure that before long I will be able to come back here and beat that hands down.

I "accidently" stole my neighbors water hose and pressure regulator. Not good!

We were camping next to friends and they left to go home while we were running errands. When we returned, I saw what I thought was thier water hose left at their site and disconneted it and brought it to my site. About 20 minutes later, a class C pulled up looking for their hose. I brought their hose back over and tried to explain that I didn't mean to steal it. They were an older couple and very irate. They proceeded to call the ranger and wanted to press charges for theft! Luckly, the ranger had some common sense and told the couple to get over it. My wife still gives me a hard time about that 10 years later!
