OK, here are some pictures. First, a view with the access panel removed. Second, looking up the chimney. Finally, I opened the box where the flame is and there was a good amount of brown powder. I scraped it out and it's pictured in the third shot after I closed up the flame box. Anyone know what that is? Might it relate to my CO problem? Thanks.

I don't know what to call the brown power other than burnt LP residue, whats the black stuff? soot fluffs? I put a piece of masking tape over the burner every spring, rap on the chimney a few times with a small stick, and then vacuum everything out in the burner area. That brown powder may be causing an improper flame, yellow not blue and maybe the black soot fluffs.
The brown powder look like rust to me. When was the last time the flue was cleaned? The black lumps look like carbon and if so would indicate a burner problem.
