What can I expect towing a 24 foot TT between I90 and Lovell,Wy? I have never been on this route and want to go across Bighorn Lake.

Beautiful scenery for the first hour or so West of Sheridan with some switch backs and grades of about 7%. There are lots of places along the first 10 miles or so where they fly ultralights and hang gliders off of the mountains and land in Sheridan below. If you're comfortable with mountain driving (and if you're who I THINK you are, you are) you'll like this route.
Good luck / Skip

Route 14 is OK with about 7% grades going both up and down. Route 14A has 10% grades and many switchbacks. While 14A would be the shorter route to Lovell, the white knuckle factor probably wouldn't be worth the miles saved.

We are in Sheridan, WY right now and would not advise it since there is 4 ft of snow on the road. Just joking! Yes there is snow but when the snow is gone it is a great trip as long as you can handle the steep down grade and switch backs.

Thanks Skip I figured maybe you had been this way. Sounds like my kind of road. I'm going to run up that way the second and third week of May and try to get in some fly fishing prior to the runoff.

The West bound climb from Sheridan is not too bad. Moderate grades and a bunch of switch backs. When you get to Burgess junction 14A will spilt off as the Northern route. 14A is closed during the winter and remains closed today. If you take 14A West of Burgess Junction you will climb another 2,000 ft to 9,430 ft before descending almost 6,000 ft to Lovell. This is the section that in addition to switch backs has 10% grades. I have always done this section while East bound so for me it was mostly a slow climb. You will see lots of overheated vehicles while climbing and lots of smoking brakes on the downhill sections. The scenery on 14A is great, but you do need to use caution on those steep grades.

I've probably driven both routes several hundred times, having lived out there for 30+ summers. I prefer 14 instead of Alt 14 because there's always some fool burning his brakes up. Here's the weather http://www.wyoroad.info/ObservedConditions/Meridian/Temps.html
If you click on the conditions by route you will see that most of the area is dry and only South Pass and Big Horns have blowing snow. After the runoff is concluded in July, the lake merely dries up and becomes a trickle thru the Canyon.

I have gone over the Bighorns on 14A east & west bound and don't see them being that big of a problem if driven with a little caution, and I'm a Flat Lander as some would say. JMHO
