Dittos to Don Jaun:

How big is your GREY tank, how many of you will be there, how do you wash dishes and how long are your showers.

Our 40-gal grey tank will fill up in one to three days with 3 of us depending on how liberal we are with water.

Our black tank lasts about a week- and I'm not sure we've ever filled it.

One answer is that you could go without a sewer and see how it goes- it sounds like you'll get to run several experiments on just how long it will take to fill up the grey tank....even if you do get the sewer you could close off the grey and monitor it to see how quickly it fills. If you keep filling it up and "getting in trouble" before you leave, and are unable to reduce your water use, then maybe you can start getting sites with sewer hook ups as your trip progresses.

One other thing- I recently found a quick-connect sewer shutoff, that theoretically could allow one to let some grey water run back up into the black tank...

Some one will cry foul and warn of cross contamination (oh dear, poop mixing with the cesspool of dead skin, body oil, soap and food washed off our plates....a federal crime!), but if 10 or 20 extra gallons of capacity is going to enable you to save 5 bucks a day, and that's what you want to do.......

I can dump at my house using the cleanout in my front yard. However I still get full hook up sites when available. I can dump clean/rinse my tanks before leaving and just put TT away when I arrive home. You can also take as many showers as you like without any gray water worries. Really it's about convenience. You could not connect to CG sewer and use the dump station and take the $3.00-$5.00 savings. But then you have to wait in line and deal with dump station issues. Avoid the headache, get full hook ups when available.

Kind a matter of choice. We nearly always stay at state parks or other government campgrounds so we rarely have sewer hook-up so we are used to dump stations. If we just stay 1 or 2 nights I won't dump till after another couple of nights. If the campground offers sewer for the same price, then why not but its true that its better to leave the valves closed and dump with more water in the tanks.

I would save the money if just water and electric is less. Infact my preference for a weekend is no utilites as we have plenty of resources to make 3 to 4 nights. I have no problem using the dump at a rest stop or at my storage facility upon return. I prefer to fill the tanks at least 3/4 before dumping anyway. If we get full hookups I do an extra rinse but that is not needed every time IMO.

Personally, I fork over the extra five bucks or so a night and get a full hook up site whenever possible. I find it much easier to dump @ my site than wait in line @ the dump station.

Full hook ups is the way to go, I like taking long showers and not have to conserve water in fear of filling up our tanks. I always fill my tank to the rim with water and flush it out after every trip. I also have a tank flush system which helps but I am very complusive about cleaning out the black tank.

We always go full hookup if we have a choice, even for 2-3 nights. Our grey tank rarely lasts past 1.5 days with showers and dishes before filling up. With a full hook up you can enjoy yourself and not worry about using too much water. Also less stress during emptying the tanks, no one is behind you in line, no pressure to hurry.

We always opt for full hook-up sites. To us, the few extra dollars is well worth it for the convenience.

Thanks to all. We will try both methods and once we get a few trips under our belt will know which way is best for us. Most likely we will use the full hookups for convenience but it is nice to know that we have a choice. Happy camping to all.

do you have a tank sprayer in your unit? if so you can dump any time you please. I generally get a full hookup site every third day but depends on size of your tanks and your useage.
