Can any of you kodiak c5500 owners help me. We have an 06 endura with an 8.1 liter eng. The sales brocure from Gulf Sream specifies an 80gal. fuel tank. The build sheet from GM says i have an 80gal. fuel tank. But with 8600 miles on the odometer and alot of fill ups, My tank never takes more than 65 gal. I am interested to know how much your unit usually takes at the pump with needle on empty. Average mpg and range would also be helpfull. thanks in advance!

I just dropped 60 gallons in my tank ('06 Kodiak W/Duramax) and it was on 1/4.

I remember reading somewhere, on another thread, that people were having trouble getting all the gas into their tanks....a problem with the tank vent, I believe. You may want to take a look at the fill line, and the smaller vent hose that should be running with it. is it kinked? Have you noticed if you wait a few minutes, can you put more fuel into the tank? There was some talk about putting the RV on blocks to get the angle of the fill line to work better. I don't think I'd go that far, unless I was planning to head out into the desert or something, and needed every last drop of fuel!!

You should be able to measure the tank, and then calculate fairly closely, as to what the capacity is. On the upside, you don't have to pay as much to fill it! I've got a Winnie 31C, with a 55 gallon tank, and that's plenty to fill for me! I figure that at about 8 mpg, I'll go about 400 miles in any given day...and that is plenty. Then I'll fill it up, go and park for the night! With that tank you have, you'll still probably get 7-8 mpg, and that would put you at over 500 miles if you only put 60 gallons in it.

Still...I'm sure you want to know, and I don't blame you for that! Measure it, then take your time filling it the next time.

Have fun, don't sweat the small stuff!!

I've noted the exact same thing on my kodiak. I can only assume that the gauge is overly pessimistic, allowing there to be 10+ gallons of "reserve" fuel when on empty as indicated by the gauge.

Given the fact that my gauge reads full when I fill up, I don't think I have a problem filling the tank fully. Who knows. It drove me crazy at first. I like to have explanations for this type of thing.

How about taking along a 5 gallon tank of fuel, run the 65/80 gallon tank dry, pour in your 5 gallons and then hit the first filling station?

Nothing like empty-to-full to know for sure.

I have read one of the Kodiak Chassis forum that if you climb under MH there is tag attached to the tank showing it's size. Some have said it will say 109 gallons. Extra amount must be for expansion. I have been under my MH, but have never looked for the tag.

I've put as much as 72 gals in mine, 8.1 gasser. I usually have a trailer in tow so I'm seeing between 6-7 mpg. I can easily go ~500 miles between fueling.

Is there any reason you would not believe the tank is not 80 Gal? The only logical thing is that the guage is not 100% accurate. Is there any fuel guage that is 100% accurate? None that I have ever seen.

A little extreme! And a good way to mess up the engine's fuel system. I think I'd rather hold a match and look into the tank to see how full it is Only kidding!!

You risk screwing up the fuel injection, just to find out how big the tank is?
Try to measure it again...calculate how big it is.
Try filling it slower, if it is a pressure venting problem....
Try finding that tag on the bottom, if there is one.
Try jumping up and down the rear bumper.... to "burp" it.
Try filling it, and then driving about 350 miles (figuring about 8 mpg) and see if you've used about a half tank. The gauge is probably not that accurate, but you would might get an idea.

Or, just don't worry too much about it...decide what kind of traveling you do, and if having that "extra" fuel capacity really matters. You're going to stop for gas when the gauge says you're down to about 1/4 tank anyway....does it really matter

Just my opinion....and not really worth two cents, now that gas is so expensive!!
