I agree with Sue.t. I have used a Melitta cone for 12 years in our trailer. I brew it right into my coffee cup (a large one with a lid). Only the cup and cone to clean and nothing to break. Works when boondocking without running the generator and does not take up valuable counter space.
A coffee press would be my second choice but only if unbreakable.

I have one of the much maligned B&D under the counter ones. We fulltime so it is used daily. Works good. Only problem I have had was when the pot was not placed right and coffee ran down. Have wood cabinet doors and no problems around it so far. I hope I have one of the ones made by the A-Team on a Wednesday too.

Bought one of the damned B&D machines to hang under the counter, and because of the thermal carafe. The carafe works good, when the machine works, and that's only when we're plugged into shore power!! It won't work off our Honda EU3000 nor will it work off our MSW inverter. We'll be installing a new PSW inverter later this year, so maybe it'll work then?? Stupid, electronic gizmo!

We have a regular countertop model. Also use a regular old perculator at times. I like using this when I get up early and sit out with the sunrise and cook the coffee on the outside stove.

go to www.sailorsams.com and look at the Contoure. We had B&D hated it. We have the Contoure now and love it. Stainless pot no heat plate. Coffee stays hot for hours. They are built for boats and RVs.

I hAD an under-the-counter coffee maker once and hated it. The steam tended to get into the wood of the cabinets and ruin it.

What I use is an electric percolator. I got an 8 cup model (thats all we need and it is smaller). When its not in use, it gets cleaned and put in the cabinet.

I don't have much counter space either but I was lucky enough to find one that doesn't take much space and the coffee pot is stainless steel...bonus...don't have to worry about it breaking.
