My DW and I are beginning to tour our local state parks. We have been very successful searching online for South Carolina parks. From what we see online most, if not all, North Carolina state parks have primitive camping only. Does this sound accurate? Or are we missing something?
We really want to travel around our local states more, but we aren't interested in the primitive camping style. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated.

You are mostly right. As much as I like NC. It is poor pitiful when it comes to state parks and camping. SC parks are much better. You can however find some good county parks. Yancy county Park (Paitence Park} is very nice, and has a great CG. Toe River CG. Has full hookups, playgrounds, pool, and the river almost surrounds it. It is near Spruce Pine. Not sure from your area. But from here. There is no good way to get there. Gotta suck it up and go up the crooked hill. It is worth the trip.

Other than that. Many of the private mountain CGs are very good, and kind of rural, or out of town. Most are reasonable priced. You might try Raccoone Holler, or Buck Hill, or Secluded Valley.
You are correct in that most NC state parks have NO hookups, no water or electric (that is all we need/want). That is changing, however. Several parks (not updated on their website) now have a few w/e sites available. What keeps us away more than anything is the lack of a reservation system.
We were at Crosswinds on Jordan Lake and it has water and electric and sewer dump. Only downside was the gate was locked at 8PM. Nice wooded campground with plenty of room and some sites are duplex so you can camp with friends. About 30 minutes or less from Raleigh on Hwy 64. There are several campgrounds in this area on Jordan Lake.
I don't know what parks you are looking at but Falls Lake State Park and Jordan Lake State Park have water and electric. I have read of others in different states that have "full" hookups but in our 30+ years of camping in State Parks, the only "full" hookups I have seen are WE.
